I thought I read it's okay as long as it's a prescription, am I right?

Yes you can... you can bring non-prescription medicine over 3.4 oz as well. The TSA has stopped me before and checked the medicines and it may slow you down in the security line. I usually bring full bottle of my kids OTC medicines- tylenol, advil, benedryl. Sometimes they test them.... sometimes they don't. All depends on the TSA agents at security line. It usually takes about 4-5 more minutes through the line and you do have to declare them when you get the the x-ray machines. I've flown 4 times in the last 3 years and been stopped twice in my home airport and never once on the return.

Technically I think the answer is NO. Might you get through? sure. but why risk. Just get a 3.5 oz plastic bottle. fill it with medicine and check the rest of the bottle in big luggage. The small bottle will go through and be enough for that day ++.

This is incorrect. Medications are exempt from the 3-1-1 rule

This is correct. TSA agents sometimes give people flak, but if it's a prescription in the pharmacy's container then it's exempt from the liquids limitation. Period. It is however, better to go ahead and include a prescription bottle with liquid contents in the zip-top bag with any other travel liquids.

If an agent gives you a hard time, CALMLY yet assertively ask for a supervisor. They are right there in the line, so you are not inconveniencing anyone.

I've done contract work in Airports all over the Southeast ... this stuff gets ingrained in you after awhile.

Both prescription and non-prescription medications are exempt from the 3oz rule. You must present them to the TSA for screening separately from the rest of your liquids. My experience is that the TSA will test them, but that only takes an extra few minutes. I've never had trouble with the TSA telling me they weren't allowed.

That said, to avoid the extra screening, I do place over-the-counter liquid meds in my checked luggage if I have a checked bag. But I would never do that with a prescription medication. Those I always keep in my carryon because it's not as easy to replace them.

Would a tsa have a problem with say a saline nose spray. I have awful sinus problems and of course would only carry a small bottle of it. I usually carry that in my purse. Also do you have to completely empty all the contents out of it. I've never been thru tsa before.

Prescriptions with the pharmacy label on them are exempt, so you're right. :thumbsup2

Like the PP said, put it in your ziplock bag with all of your liquids and gels.

:) Sorry question asked and answered, so I deleted my comment

We carry Dristan and keep it in the zip lock bag (it helps with the pressure issues on the plane) -- if your nasal spray is the same size it should also be ok. Depending on how tight security is (in Canada they're pretty strict), I usually put the zip lock bag in the bin with other things that have to go in them eg. shoes. It just makes it go faster if they don't show up on the xray as a bunch of liquids in your carry on or purse.

Thank you Redrosesix, that was the only concern I had. But I will definitely do what you suggest putting the bottle in a ziplock bag.
