Just wondering if I can bring a standard sized unopened can of powdered formula in my carry on for my baby.... Thanks!

Okay we just flew last week EWR - RSW going down we didn't have a problem. Coming home they took our formula from us. I was very upset. I think the guy was just a jerk, but not sure. I also had a small unopened baby juice and they took that also.

I looked at the guy and said what am I suppose to feed my son? I was told I could buy it on the other side of security. Never did find it. Lucky for us my son slept all the way home.

Was it powdered? The OP specified her formula was powdered.

Wow that is weird! I took a large unopened can of powder and a 4oz baby juice down- no problem(sbn-atl-mco) on way back I had three cans of liquid formula ( the smaller cans) and a bottle of baby juice and they looked at it and put it back in the diaper bag. I think I would have asked for a supv, esp in my case where my DD is on specialized formula!!

I would have been pissed!!! And also asking for a supervisor. I have flown to Seattle and back and Orlando twice with DS and his formula was never an issue. I always had 2 or 3 cans of the ready to feed with me.

Buy formula in an airport? Not too likely, especially if you use anything but the most common sort. I've never seen formula for sale in any airport other than Heathrow and Gatwick in London, not even at O'Hare, which *should* sell it.

I don't have a baby to travel with right now, but my rule was always to carry at least 24 hours worth of supplies in wintertime -- as you never know when there might be a nasty weather delay (DFW last Saturday, anyone? Denver anytime in the past two weeks?) As far as I'm concerned, that's the quantity necessary for the flight. If they tried to take away my baby food, I would definitely be asking for a supervisor.

There are no new rules about carrying-on powders. Powders are just as acceptable now as they were 6 months ago.

At PHL in November, my backpack got pulled aside for secondary screening. The TSA agent at the monitor told the TSA agent at the end of the conveyor that there was a bottle in my bag. He asked if I had a bottle in my bag and I told him I didn't. He then asked if he could open my backpack, I told him yes, he pulled out a bottle (around 8 ounces) of a prescription medication for my daughter. Keep in mind that this bottle was a professional sample, so there was no prescription label on it, nothing with my daughter's name on it. He showed me the bottle and gave me a stern but still courteous (NOT accusatory) raised eyebrow. I told him there was powder inside, not liquid. He shook it, he heard the powder, and he placed the bottle back into my backpack and zipped it up for me.

And by the way, I used to LOVE powdered formula. Haven't used it in about 3 years, but man was it convenient for any sort of travel, and I'm talking just driving 2 hours to grandma's house, not flying 1000 miles.
