Can I as a DVC member call MS on behalf of my daughter?

maybe you as a DVC member could reach out to the owner and find out info about UY, etc. Is there any way he'd transfer points to your account? DVC is still waiving holding status and returning borrowed points. Maybe he'd respond to a DVC member?
IMHO, your daughter is correct to focus on her employment, and it might mean losing this vacation $. Good luck.

Borrowed points can not be transferred..which she said may be the status.

And, transfers require a call to MS...harder than just moving dates.

I believe that borrowed points as of last week were still being returned to UY they came from. The "sweep" occurs automatically every Thursday. Maybe she could talk to owner, cancel, and "if" borrowed points sweep back into account get a points transfer or ability to use them in that year.
Of course, owner does not have to do this. But it's worth a try. Owner likely doesn't know about "no holding, return borrowed points" policy. But, action must be taken ASAP if reservation is for next week.

Yes, that is true...they are being returned..,I was just mentioning that since today is already Thursday, those points wouldn’t be back before the check in date and it could be weeks before they are.

As you said, this isn’t on the owner, and it seems they already have helped out. Not to sound harsh, but if I had someone other than the renter contact me, I wouldn’t talk to them about it,

No one could have ever imagined this situation. Since you have a DVC account, a points transfer is possibly a good option for the future.

Given the current situation, I am sad that the owner won’t try to help again. It‘s a hard lesson to learn.

I mean at worse its 1hr? Thats even if they need to call MS to start with. If they need to call, they call, put the phone on speaker, and go about their day until MS answer, do the quick change, and hang up.

Do I think they should? Eh sort of a grey area can't say I feel strongly either way, I probably would do it though but would outline this is the last change I will make.

Just saying if someone doesn't want to do it that fine but don't pass blame on waits for MS for not doing it.
What you don't know is when are those points going to expire? were they points that were banked and now will be no good? This maybe the reason they will not change the reservation. Problem for their daughter is the resort is open.

Which is fine and is a legit reason. The call time for MS was not a legit reason in my book.

I never said they had to do anything either just that from my view waiting on hold was not a big deal for really anyone in the world we live on.

A reason like points expired and MS not giving extensions is a perfect reason as to why you can't do anything.

@MilwaukeeMom, I think you're being a bit unfair to the owner.

When the reservation was cancelled for March (I'm assuming by Disney), and the points were going to be returned to the owner, the owner had four options: (1) transfer the points to RCI; (2) transfer the points to Disney hotel space and it's terrible exchange rate; (3) rebook for your daugther prior to August 2020; or (4) let the points expire. But the owner and your daughter agreed on #3. That was the time for self-reflection about traveling during COVID.

And I appreciate that your daughter now doesn't want to go. My wife and I were basically in the same place as your daughter. We had a May 2020 WDW trip planned using our December use year points, some of which were to expire this year. We ended up cancelling about a week before WDW closed. We thought of rebooking for July. We decided in March that July was too risky, so we went with November. And even November is iffy.

The resort is open. The reservation is valid. As a DVC owner yourself, you should know that going on points is way different than a cash reservation. I don't mean to sound mean, but if you want the Disney magic, you have to pay the Disney prices. Or get travel insurance to make your own magic.

My daughter rented points for a March vacation which was cancelled. She negotiated a new trip with the point owner, but wants to change it again. Point owner is telling her he can’t or won’t do anything to help. After reading many posts here, it’s pretty clear he just doesn’t want to do anything. Can I, as a DVC member, talk to member services and help her? This is so frustrating!

Would you want someone to be able to call in and discuss a reservation made by you on your account and allow them to change it? :confused3

After everything I’ve read, I feel even more strongly against renting points from someone. I asked a question and I have my answer. I truly regret having said anything and I hope someone closes this thread 😔

Sometimes you are not going to get the responses you want. But it's still okay to ask a question, especially when it comes from a place where you or a family member is about to make a decision that will cost quite a lot of money. You never know when someone will come up with a constructive suggestion. You may not have thought this through from an owner's perspective, but I think your motive was to help your child and that now you realize that the owner of the rented points may also be in a situation where they can't change anything, if these points are about to expire.

Renting is always a risk but in normal times, things go a lot smoother most of the time. These are not normal times. Eventually things will return to a new normal where we may have learned some new skills with regard to safe guarding our health, and where going on a trip to Disney will once again be a magical experience to look forward to.

Many people have benefited greatly from renting, both owners and the people who have rented. This is an arrangement that is part of our rights as members. It has helped lots of members who have found the need to use up points which might expire and at the same time, allowed others to have a nicely discounted trip to Disney. It is important to have perspective.

You should never regret asking questions, it gives you an opportunity to see how other people would react or handle the situation. The responses you get may not be right, ethical or what you may want to hear but it lets you see other's view point and to make future decisions. After seeing what has happened with this pandemic I have learned by reading the boards and seeing the issues many have gone thru that I would never rent points but would look for an owner who would do a transfer so that I would have some control over the situation.
