My DD is going back just for HP. If getting there first thing in the morning and staying all day should this be possible with a few other rides added in if time allows. Going Mid August. The main reason she is going is HP has already been once so the other rides are just a bonus. IF not, she will hold off til next summer when will be able to stay 2-3 days,.

In mid-August... maybe? Diagon Alley is opening in four days. So I rather expect the Harry Potter sections of the parks to be packed to the gills all summer. It would really depend on what you would consider "doing" the HP sections. Gringotts, Hogwarts Express and the Forbidden Journey, sure. Visiting every shop, seeing every show, eating at every restaurant, and finding all the interactive wand spots... not so much.

But that doesn't mean she won't have fun! Getting there early and having a solid touring plan will help a lot.

This is my burning question too. Disney wins out for us, and I don't have the time/money to do more than one universal day. We will be going the last weekend in September, so I hope the crowds have died down a little.

I spent a few hours in Diagon Alley today for the soft opening. First, let me say it's AMAZING!!

Now on to your question....right now, the lines for the Hogwarts Express have been about 10-20 minutes. The four times I rode, three times it was under ten. Remember that you need a two park ticket to ride though. Diagon is filled with things to do, and you could easily spend a few hours there if you include lunch. Gringotts hasn't opened yet--long waits are expected so that might take a chunk of the day!!! There may be a wait to get into Diagon once it officially opens on the 8th. Best bet is to monitor these boards to see how crowds are in the coming weeks.
