We are doing a British Isles cruise. We like to browse the fresh food markets in the port cities. Can we bring little baskets of strawberries or raspberries, apples, breads or cheeses back on board with us?

Pretty sure that is a "no", unless the package is factory sealed. We tried to walk onto the Wonder in Hilo with some yummy poke (raw cubed fish), and they stopped us. No big deal, we just sat down and scarfed it up! :D

I think you need someone that's been on a British isles cruise to answer you. Scott from disneycruiseline blog was able to bring a pizza back onto the ship in Italy. I know that any cruise that has port stops or starts/stops in the US is a big NO for bringing back any fresh food. Factory sealed is fine. Fruit and meat are big no-no's in the US--can't take them on or off the ship. It's meant to keep our agriculture safe from any possible pests. (Our tour guide in Skagway, Alaska had great stories to tell...when he's crossing into Canada he's asked if he has any weapons...crossing back into the US and they ask if he has lemons and Australian lamb....)

That's awesome!! :joker:

We were on the British Isles cruise last year. Although we didn't take any food onto the ship and I didn't see any confiscated food sitting on tables (although I really wasn't looking), there was a couple sitting beside my family on the pool deck saying they brought on food from one of the ports. She said, "I was eating it as I went through and no one stopped me"....I honestly can't tell you what she brought on board, but I remembered it because I was under the impression that unless it's factory sealed, it's not permitted to be brought on board.

I understand that it's normal procedure to ask at land borders when going from US to Canada. But, I still haven't gotten used to it when they ask us, as Canadians, on our return back to Canada, if we have any weapons. I know they need to ask everyone, but I'm still taken aback each time. US and Canada are really very different.

As @Geomom mentioned, bringing pizza on in Italy was no problem. I feel like fresh produce would still be an issue though. It might have to be a question you ask once on board.
