Can DVC Member Transfer points from one Contract to Another?

If a DVC member owns two separate contracts, one at VWL and the other at BW (both with same use year), can unused current year points be transferred by this member into the other contract in order for these points to be banked for the coming year?

For example, if there will be 78 current year points that will not be used at BW, can these points be transferred into the VWL contract and then banked for use the next year at the VWL?

Answers will be appreciated...

If they are truly separate and not under one master contract, you are just like two different members. You could then transfer points from one contract to another. If they are linked, you cannot. I assume your asking about transferring points later in the use year to take advantage of the fact that DVC doesn't know how to handle transfers of transferred points. It might or might not work but there would be no harm in trying if the points were going to be lost anyway.

If you're asking if the transferred points become the same as the destination contract, the answer is yes in spite of what the rules say. It could change at any time and would not be something you could count on.

I'm not sure that one will work. Although I agree with Dean, it appears that DVC won't be able to stick to the home resort issue and you may get longer usage out of the points, I thought it was the case that if you transfer points thay can not be banked...On further thought, I got that backwards, banked or borrowed can't be transferred. Sorry if I made that more confusing.

Yes, I used to own two different UY's at 3 different resorts. You can transfer points between contracts....there are some very good benefits for doing this!! Actually, that just kind of balances out the disadvantages of owning two uy's.

Do I have this right? If I transfer the 83 points left in my August UY 2005 SSR account into my 2005 April UY BCV account I can then bank them into the BCV 2006 contract. Is there a limit on the number of tranfers into or out of an account per year? I seem to remember something about that also but don't remember the specifics. We transferred the one point left into the August 2005 OKW account from the BCV account and now wonder if that messed up the possibility of transferring anything else into OKW which is where I need the points next September.
TIA for any help

I think there used to be a limit to what could transfer in or out, but now I think it is that you can only go one direction in a used year...all in or all out.

BTW,VLee, It looks like your two contracts might be under one member number. Did you buy both direct from Disney? If so, I'm not so sure the transfer will work. I think that would be a banking loophole if it does.

Do you get home resort advantage on the points transfered? I have 2 different contracts and in fact 2 membership numbers. Let's say one year I want to plan for a GV at OKW. Can I transfer points from my VWL membership to my OKW membership and then use my OKW 11 month window?

You have it right, the question is whether they will then be BCV points or SSR points, it appears they'll actually be BCV points. The limit is one direction per contract per year. So if you already had the one point transferred into the OKW contract, you may not be able to transfer out until the 2006 use year.

I'll again caution you that they may indeed both be under a single master contract if the same use year even if they were both bought resale. If that's the case, I don't think you'll be able to transfer out during your 2005 use year at all from either contract.

It is not supposed to be so but sadly it appears to be. It may be hit or miss so don't absolutely count on it, you may get burned.

As Dean has mentioned in this thread- the current tracking system DVC uses has difficulty following the Use Year and Home Resort status- so transferring points from a VWL account into an OKW contract might work.

Points are always supposed to maintain their original resort and Use Year- so don't be surprised if you do this depending that the current system will always be in place. You might make that transfer and then be told the points cannot be used until 7 months at the non-home resort- as the policy actually states.

I hope not. It wouldn't be fair to other OKW members. Wouldn't you be upset if someone booked a Grand Villa at the 11 month window for the time you wanted with non-OKW points? OKW owners should only have to compete with other OKW points until the 7 month window.

Best wishes -

Thanks Dean- looks like I can put those SSR points into the OKW contract and then bank them all since we transferred out of BCV into OKW already. I have three separate contracts - no add ons - each is under it's own number. Currently BCV has no 2005 points left so don't have to worry about that one. Am not counting on them becoming OKW points - just want them all in one place so if we try to change to BWV at 7 month window I have enough in one place to do the whole reservation at once. Will use the 11th month window for the original one at OKW (my first choice anyway) and then if we decide to try for BVW or one of the others (based on the preferences of the majority going) would have additional points to cover the additional needed if the 7 month was available.

Thanks for all the input. The situation I have is that I bought two separate contracts.. both resale, from different agencies.

However, I have one membership number that I use to access my accounts information. So I am confused as to what I really have-- The contract numbers are different. I had intentionally bought them with the same use year, June.

How do I find out if they are "linked" as one responder mentioned??

Thanks

Assume they are which is 99% likely, especially if all the info comes up when you give them one number.
