I called Jude's previous owner tonight; she is a veterinarian and she will research this question for me tomorrow, BUT, I was wondering, if dogs can take Pyridium. One of Jude's problems is frequency, urgency and I am sure, bladder irritation. If he could take a drug that would relieve these symptoms, as they do in humans, he would feel better. Does anyone know? DH can order it for me and we can give it to Jude.

Mucosal Protectants: These medications are somewhat controversial on how helpful they are, but glucosamine, Durlactin, pyridium, and urinary antispasmotic tablets containing methylene blue dyes (safe?) are all sometimes used for either their coating-soothing properties or anti-inflammatory properties.

I haven't ever used it but I did find this and a few other links from Vets that use it on occasion. I also came across links where Vets say absolutely not. I hope You get the answers you're looking for after she researches it for you. Maybe with your thought process there is another more suitable drug that Jude could take. I hope so. :)

Thank you. I let Jude run through the woods about 3 times a day to pee as much as he wants, but it is frustrating for him. I feel he is emptying his bladder but then I think he is getting bladder spasm that are just irritating for him. During the day I take him out on a long lead and let him pee three times, and then bring him in, have him lie down and relax, give him treats, etc. I just want him to have as little discomfort as possible but of course, I don't want to create more problems.

Hi Dawn!

Would it be possible to provide cranberry juice for your dog? Or, at least, check with your veterinarian if it would be helpful or appropriate.

I just thought of that because many woman use it for bladder irritation and/or urinary tract infections. (I do know that your dog's condition is much more serious than that.) And, I checked on Google and it seems that many people, with the approval of the veterinarian, do provide cranberry juice for their dogs. Some people used full strength cranberry juice and some provided cranberry juice diluted with water. Other people opened cranberry capsules and mixed it in with the dog’s food.

I hope that you can provide some relief for your dog.
