I was planning on making reservations for Plaza Inn and Ariel's Grotto, however one of my family members, my grandpa, had an accident. He fell down the stairs. :( Thank goodness he didnt break anything and while he is in pain, he will likely fully recover.

I still have to make the reservations and he is obviously included, but if he decides to stay home and not visit Disney, will I be able to change my reservations?

Thank you!

If it's just one person, it's generally easier to keep the ADR as-is for the full party (including grandpa!) and then tell them at the podium when you check-in that it will be one less person. Trying to add on another person later to the ADR might be more difficult.

And I'm sorry to hear about your grandpa. I've fallen down the stairs and it resulted in a hip stress-fracture (and I'm only in my twenties) -- it can be a scary experience! So he definitely has my sympathy, and I hope he feels better in time to join your family on the trip. :)

As the PP said, I highly recommend making a reservation for the maximum number of people that might be at the meal. It's usually easier to reduce the party sized, opposed to adding one more person, especially if it's a large group or going from an even to a odd number of guests (i.e., changing table size).

You can modify your reservations after you've made them online, over the phone, or via the app (when you look up the reservation details, there is a little button that says "modify" on-line and in the app). From there you can search for a new time or new party size. Once you know for sure that your Grandfather is not going to you, I would see if the reservation can be modified, but if it cannot, then I would keep it for the current party size and just tell the CM at check-in that you'll be one less.

Hope he gets well quickly and can join you at DLR!

And hope they don't charge you for the missing guest. Just go online and modify your reservation ahead of time to remove the extra person. https://disneyland.disney.go.com/trip/my-vacation/

You can change, modify or cancel your dining reservations at any time...if it is a full cancel you just need to do that 24 hours in advance to avoids being charged. Loosing one on a reservation is no big deal, adding one may be a different story.

Book the seat for Grandpa.

To elaborate: I generally go to the park solo and will often book an ADR for two since a lot of times a single option isn't available (even though a res for two will show up as available). I've never had an issue telling the host at the podium that the ADR just for one person and I've never been charged extra for the empty seat. Maybe if it was a large party, things might be different -- I've never really needed an ADR for anything more than four people.

But again, until you're sure whether he can make it not, I'd recommend keeping the ADR with grandpa included in the head count. You could call the dining line the night before and make adjustments to your count if you wanted to make sure it was accurate when you checked in, but it will still be easier to deduct a person than add on at the last-minute.

Thank you! You guys helped me a lot, I'll make my reservations with my grandpa included! ;)

Thanks again!!!
