Can borrowed points be transfered?

I was curious about transferring points from my June 2011 allotment to another member, here is the reply I received:

Yes, we may transfer vacation Points from your June 2011 Use Year to
someone else's Membership. Please remember that the Vacation Points will
retain your Use Year and your Home Resort Prioirity.

Your 2011 June points at your resort, become their 2011 June points at your resort. They cannot borrow them into 2010. They would be transferred into one of their 2011 UY contracts.

just a reminder for anyone planning to call MS about a transfer:

make sure you don't mention or imply that money is involved.

I am more confused. I just signed a 30 point resale with a different UY because I was under the impression that I could transfer my points once a year. I knew they retained their UY and home resort but I understood that I could bank and borrow to get 90 points every 3 years. Guess I will have to relook at whether I should keep this. I have a couple more days to back out.

Since we are on the subject...I am wondering if I am able to execute this transaction. In Jan of this year I accepted a transfer of Dec '09 BWV (my home is BCV with an Oct uy). I used about half of them for a June '10 reservation at the BWV and the other half to complete an upcoming Oct reservation at the BCV (of which I had to make at the 7 month mark) Here's the question..... I would like to make a June '11 reservation at the BCV but again will not have enough points ( I know, I know, I need to add on ) Am I able to get another transfer now for that June '11 reservation since it is in another uy (even though it is tecnically in MY '10 use year and the origional transfered points I received that I used for this Oct reservation were Dec '09 points) I hope I didn't make this too confusing! Anyone out there know how I could arrange this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tina

Where do you want to transfer them? You can bank and borrow and have 90 points every three years for a trip; that does not itself involve transfering. If what you mean is whether you can transfer them from the resale contract to your other exisitng contract once per use year, the answer is yes but you cannot bank or borrow them before that transfer and you can only bank them, not borrow after the transfer. And in the usual case there would be no need to transfer them to your other contract. Generally the way to make a reservation using two contracts with two different use years is to reserve some nights with one contract and the rest with the second contract and then link the reservations. You only need to transfer if there is one night left to reserve and you need to combine the points left from both contracts to get enough for that night.

You should be fine. Those Dec 09 points were transfered as such and thus into your 2009 use year that began in Oct. All you will need for that 2011 trip is someone who is transfering points that are from a 2010 use year which would then be a deemd a transfer into your 2010 use year that begins Oct 2010.

The way that it was explained to me is that, since you received 2009 UY points, that counted as your 2009 UY transfer.

So, as long as you are getting 2010 (or 2011) UY points, it will be a fine. You just want to make sure you get points that will be valid for that June 2011 vacation. If you get 2010 points that would expire before then, you can always bank them once you get them.

For example, you could seek a transfer now of Feb 2010 UY points. Once you get them, bank them into the 2011 UY, and they would still be good for that June 2011 trip. It would work the same way for Mar, April, or June 2010 UY points.

If you get any other 2010 UY points, they will still be valid for that June 2011 trip without having to be banked.

Hope this helps!

This helps me much better. Now I just realized I need to bank my Dec points by July 31 and I am not sure if the contract will go through that quickly. I just signed on July 1. Here's hoping they will allow:worship: banking past the deadline since I just became a new member or I guess I will be renting the points which seems unlikely since there will only be 4, 13 or 17 points left depending on what I am able to book.:confused3

Thanks Sandi and Drusba:wave2: I thought I was able to do it. I just couldn't wrap my head around the logistics. Just called MS to run the senario by them. They had to put me on hold to research it. She didn't think I could do it at first but then said I could. Thanks too Sandi for spelling out the specific months and what needs to be done with them. :rotfl: Now I just have to find that "friend" that will be willing to tansfer their BCV points to me.:scratchin

If you have just signed the contract and it is just going to ROFR that could be pushing it. You can make it part of the deal to have the current owner bank the points and that's what I would do.

If you just signed, I'm assuming that your contract has not yet been submitted to ROFR. If this is the case, it's very unlikely you would close before the banking deadline. You should talk with your agent about what you want to do with these points and see if the seller is willing to bank the points now before it's submitted.

EDIT: Kat, I posted this and then saw an email notifying me of a post that essentially said the exact same thing... and I thought, "Why am I getting a notice about my own post?!" THEN I realized you and I had posted the same thoughts at the exact same time... 2:37. LOL!

I just called my agent and asked for the extra 17 points to be banked. I figured if the one bedroom I wanted was gone I could borrow what I needed for another room. Thank you everyone for the great advise! Someday I will get this figured out :rotfl: Then things will probably change again!

That was funny!! :lmao:

You will use your once a year transfer, but you will have to do it once a year and not once every three years. You could get two years at the most with transferring one year and banking it. Then transferring the next year.

Kat and Louisianna thank you again for all the help. I called to have the points transferred and found out the 2010 points were the ones already banked not the 2009 like they originally stated. I made a new offer since the information was incorrect and if they don't accept I think we will just spend the extra to add on directly through Disney and not worry about the use year. I am sure it will work out either way.:wizard:

You have 2 options, to transfer each year or to reserve independently and link the 2 stays if applicable. Generally reserving within each account is better and safer but there are a few exceptions. Say you only had enough points between the 2 accounts for a 7 day stay. If they are in separate accounts, you can't use them to reserve the full 7 days on one call 11 months out. Also, some exchange options require the points to be all in one account. OTOH, if you have missed your banking window, you might be able to transfer and THEN bank those points. Also, while banked/borrowed points cannot generally be transferred, there is some flexibility on a case by case basis for multiple contracts of a single owner.

This never even occurred to me. Are you saying MS will not let me make ALL of my reservations during one phone call between all of the accounts we have? Why not?

That is exactly what I'm saying. Say you need 300 points to make one reservation and you have 2 totally separate accounts of 150 points each same resort. You cannot call and reserve using all 300 points under the one call to get 7 days option at 11 months out. That might be a good reason to transfer points if it's important to you.

What is the reasoning for denying owners the ability to use all of the points they have paid for without an additional call? That doesn't sound like member SERVICE, but rather member HASSLE.
