I was under the impression from reading previous posts that they could be transferred. I would appreciate further discussion on this, as it directly affects something we were planning to do in the future.No. Banked or borrowed points cannot be transferred.
Well, I don't want to break any rules by posting too many details. We are trying to gather enough points to book a trip for our anniversary with the 11-month booking window. We own at the resort we want to visit, but we won't have enough points of our own by our anniversary date. We have two different accounts (due to purchasing a resale for one of our resorts), so it's not an issue to trade same year points from our end... we wouldn't get caught with the "one transfer per account per UY" rule. BUT, if we wanted to trade with another owner who only had one account, we would have to be transferring points for a different UY than the ones we received... i.e., if they transferred 2011 points to us, we would have to transfer 2010 points to them. Anyone have an idea of a strategy that would work if we found an owner with only one account who was willing to trade? As Jim said, borrowed points cannot be transferred. Only non-banked, non-borrowed points can be transferred. Maybe you could post your details and someone could offer another idea to help you do what you are trying to do.

Would the person who received the transfer then be able to bank those transferred 2010 points to their own 2011 UY?Yes, you could transfer points from your 2010 Use Year and accept a transfer into your 2011 Use Year (or vice versa) which would use up the one transfer available for both of those Use Years.
Yes. I didn't want to get that far ahead in my initial answer.Would the person who received the transfer then be able to bank those transferred 2010 points to their own 2011 UY?
Okay, that works for my situation then! *big sigh of relief*Yes. I didn't want to get that far ahead in my initial answer.
I should have said that banked or borrowed points cannot be transferred, but transferred points can be banked or borrowed. (I think -- right, Rob?)
My understanding is that the recipient of the transferred points may bank them, but cannot borrow them.Yes. I didn't want to get that far ahead in my initial answer.

Transferred points are supposed to retain all of their characteristics -- home resort booking windows, UY, expiration, banking deadlines, etc, etc.Okay, that works for my situation then! *big sigh of relief*
Now a followup... how long is the banking window? If someone received a transfer of my 2010 points with a June UY, what is the last date those points could be banked by the recipient to the 2011 UY?

And you are probably right. Transferring is pretty complicated. My understanding is that the recipient of the transferred points may bank them, but cannot borrow them.

Yep -- that's how I should have said it!Transferred points can be banked but they cannot be borrowed. Borrowed points cannot be transferred or banked. Banked points cannot be transferred or borrowed.
