Can banked points be transferred?

As far as I know it's a "use them or lose them" situation. I had banked points that I wanted to transfer and I was told that I couldn't do that.

No you can not tranfer banked points and you cannot bank the points again, you will have to use them or make a ressies and rent the ressies out. good luck.

Also, once you transfer your points(to a different contract, or someone transfers points to you) they cannot be banked. :guilty:

If current points are transferred to another member, the other member can then bank them. I did it once.

This is incorrect. Transferred points can be banked or borrowed. Banked or Borrowed points CAN NOT be transferred.

OK, so here's the possible situation...

We have a BCV contract and have brought our in-laws with us several times, usually in an every-other-year pattern. We have stayed in a 2 BR lockoff.

They have been interested in DVC, but haven't done anything about it yet.

We thought that since they seem to go with us every other year anyway, why not pick up a small resale in their names. IF it could work, they could transfer their points to us to make the big reservation when those times come.

For example, let's say they get a 50 point resale. Since they are only going every other year (in this scenario), they could bank year 1 into year 2. Let's say a trip is planned for year 2. Could they transfer both year 1 and year 2 points to us so we can make the large reservation?

Does this make sense?

DH and I don't want to be in perpetual borrowing of our own points when the in-laws come, and we'd rather now count on being able to rent points to be transferred as you never know if you can have all the cards fall your way.

Plus, if the in-laws decide to go to WDW without us later on, they have their own contract to fall back on.

So, in terms of my scenario...could this work?

No, it won't work.

Once in-laws have banked year 1 into year 2, they can't transfer those points.

However, in year 1 they could transfer to you and you could bank into your year 2 and then in year 2 they could transfer to your current year.

Transferred points can be banked but not borrowed.

zulaya, you may want to consider adding on yourself and putting the others on as associate members. Or possibly changing your entire contract to have their name. There are of course advantages and disadvantages to both ways. The advantages of having the all on one contract are seamless use, banking and borrowing. The disadvantages are related to the issued of accomplishing the transfer, including cost, plus the fact that the asset becomes at risk financially from both directions.

Dean, the no borrowing of transferred points may be the Official Party Line, but I have sucessfully borrowed transferred points from a future use year to the current UY.

The rules say no borrowing so don't count on it but good to know there is a chance. Many people have had the points put in the wrong use year to use for what they wanted and not been able to use the points for their trip they had planned with the transferred points. If they had been able to borrow them, many would not have had that problem.
