since its mentioned quite a bit in some of the posts ive read, about people arriving and asking for an upgrade,

Firstly how does this work ??? and if so why lol ??? we have always stayed at the santa fe as we never spend anytime in the hotel and only go there to sleep and never thought that as it just being a budget hotel that they do upgrades or am i missing the point again lol ???

and secondly if you upgrade how much more does it cost and does it involve changing hotels etc ???

We had paid to stay in a standard Montana room at Sequoia Lodge and were really lucky to be upgraded to a lake-view Montana room.
We didn't ask for the upgrade and the people in reception never even mentioned it to us. The first we knew was when we looked out of the window, a lovely surprise!
It didn't even cost us any more so an extra bonus

I think that most of the time, when upgrades are mentioned, it's usually by people staying in Sequoia Lodge. People often just book the standard room, which are out in the separate buildings. If they are visiting at a quiet time of the year, it's quite possible that they will be moved into the main building at no extra charge. The Santa Fe and the Cheyenne don't seem to have any preferred locations for rooms, except perhaps being nearer the main building with the restaurant etc, which you can probably make a request for when you book.

I very much doubt that you could ever ask to be upgraded to another hotel. It might only happen if your hotel had been overbooked and you were one of the lucky ones chosen. You can always hope!!

I remember when Amex was the official credit card and we used to get free upgrades to different hotels at the time of booking. We managed to get an upgrade from the Sequoia Lodge to HNY, which worked out quite cheap.
