Can anyone tell me about the H/C studios at VB?

We are headed to VB (home is BWV) for MLK weekend in January with DW, DD and 6 yr old DS who is wheelchair bound. Clearly we will need something without stairs, but do the Handicap studios differ that greatly from the "standard" studios. Do they all have the roll-in shower or do some have tubs?

I have read fellow members griping about being put in a H/C room; one that sticks in my memory was someone at VWL in a H/C room without closets! now that would be untenable; I can live with just a shower if it gets me that little bit of extra space, but no closets would be horrible.
:earseek:
In many hotels, we have found that the H/C rooms have just enough extra space to make it comfortable with DS's little wheelchair and his rambunctious 4 yr old sister. Just for comparison, we were at AKL last week and found the standard savannah view room just a little tight, tho quite livable.

This will be our first visit to VB and our first use of our DVC membership (Yay!), and we are looking forward to escaping a small portion of January in the Boston area for the balmy breezes of the Florida coast (Hey, I'm from Maine, so anything above freezing is balmy in January).

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Hi.

We had an Ocean View Inn room that was for handicapped at Vero back in July.

The wet bar sink for the kitchenette didn't have a cabinet underneath it. I guess that was for a wheelchair guest to be able to just roll up underneath the sink and be able to reach everything.

In the bathroom the sink didn't have a cabinet underneath it. The shower was the type you could just roll-in and it had a bench to sit on. The shower sprayer was the type where you could move it around (like on a flexible cord). It wasn't fixed to the wall.

The balcony was extra big and the doorway was wider than most going out to the balcony. Oh, the beds were real low to the floor.

We did have a closet to hang clothes in. It was right at the entry door.

All the studios/inn rooms at Vero and Hilton Head studios have VCRs in the room, so you should be able to get free movies for the kids down at the mercantile store. Vero is very pretty.

Have a great time!

So the Inn rooms might work then. I will consult with the DW on whether we want the Inn room vs. the studio; does anyone have any opinions on the subject?

Our soon to be 4 yr old DD is especially looking forward to the Princess Tiger Lily (she saw pix) and our planned field trip to the Manatee center (she is an ocean creature too, after all, since she has red hair just like Ariel, as she points out regularly; this is probably why she is the only 3 yr old I know who enjoys eating octopus).

As always, your advice is greatly appreciated.

The Inn rooms at Vero are the only rooms they can guarantee an ocean view (other than the beach cottages!). They have two categories in the inn - garden and ocean view inn room.

You might want to double check and make sure there are elevators for the studios (I can't remember). The studios are in the buildings that surround the main inn and I honestly can't remember if I saw elevators for those buildings or not. Anybody know?

The main inn definitely has elevators, though.

Just returned from Vero. Building 14 near the pool has eleveators. I suspect they all do since there are parking garages under all the buildings as far as I could tell. Be sure to ask member services when you make reservations.
