Can anyone tell me about the buffet at Cape May?

I checked out the menu at allears and I'm just not sure. We are not big fans of steamed clams or mussels. What other things do they offer? I was really excited about this ADR--we will be celebrating my mom's 60th bday. Thanks in advance!!!

Cape May used to be a "must do" for us. After our February visit, we don't consider it such anymore. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good. Service was spotty, food was slow to get to the buffet, lines were long. If you don't like mussels and clams, I don't think you'll be happy here.

The peel and eat shrimp is pretty good and they always have a good clam chowder. The desserts are very good.

My DH likes this place and he is definitely not a seafood eater - won't even try the stuff! He just eats the prime rib and and b'que ribs and is satisfied with that, while I load my plate with clams :)

I agree. The last time we were there the mussels and clams were rubbery and the shrimp were mealy. The rest was not memorable. Very disappointing! Dessert is stil good though.

You don't have to like seafood at all to enjoy the Cape May Clam Bake. A wide variety for everyone.

Yes, they do have a wide variety...if they don't run out of it, first.

I agree this place has gone downhill. We've gone a few years back a few times and it was good.

We went this past December and we were very disappointed. It was just 7yr old dd and I and we spent more time getting up and getting in line to see if they refilled ANY of the things they were out of, especially the kids stuff. We definitely spent more time at the buffet than we did eating. It got to a point where it was just frustrating which I did express to the server and he would just say, "they should be filling it up soon."

If you do go, go early, it was mobbed when we were there. It took a 1/2 hour to refill many of the food items, especially the salad items, which I personally prefer to have before my meal...I ended up skipping it because it took so long to refill.

The food was ok, nothing to write home about. I'd definitely pick a different place for a birthday celebration, but...that's me. Maybe you'll have a better experience.

This is probably the *one* reason that I usually have a good dining experience at most places--I confess, I am an EARLY diner. Wherever we go, I usually take the very first ADR that the restaurant has available. That way, I'm never in too much of a crowd and the food is always available and fresh. I think if you are doing buffets, early dining is the way to go.
