We were going through the lists of places we could possibly be transferred to and this is one of them. There are no guarantees at all and we have no idea yet but wanted to know a little about it :) Is its a nice place to raise kids? Is it huge? any help would be appreciated :)

 Born and raised there!

It is a good size city but you can live in many of the outlying areas and drive into GR easily. I do. I live about 20 miles outside of the city itself. Do a search, it's probably the best way to learn what Grand Rapids has to offer.

Best of luck to you in your possible transfer.

All I know about GR is that our hockey team beat their hockey team in the AHL playoffs this year :teeth: I know that doesn't help, but I just had to throw it our there ;)

We lived in Grand Rapids for nine years and boy do I miss it!!

It has changed quite a bit since we left.

There are a lot of things for kids to do. Great museums downtown!

We lived in a little town called Dutton Michigan. WAAA!
I miss it so much!

We moved to Ohio (back to my hometown) when my DH got left behind in a corporate takeover.
There are so many things to do there.

If you like the water it has some great towns nearby.
Check out Grand Haven. Holland Mi is not that far away either and they have a wonderful Tulip festival that I believe is in May.

Hi binny ~

I live about 45 minutes South of GR! It is a good size city, but a nice city. There are many small towns/villages/cities outside the city that would be nice to live in, and very convenient to the city. I would not be upset if I had to move there ~ ~ ~ other than the fact I want to move from Michigan to get away from the cold/snow ~ I don't like them!! ;) (I was meant to live in the warm weather!!) Although, being from Idaho I'm pretty sure you are somewhat used to the weather!!

Michigan has a lot of beautiful places to visit, and GR is not too far from the beach.

Best of luck as you prepare to transfer somewhere! Michigan would be a good move!! :p

Thanks everybody! Like I said we have no idea still when or where butthis was one area that looked "likely" I guess lol. Dhs Grandmother is in Ontario and my dads family are all in Michigan for those reasons alone it would be nice to be there.

Thanks for the replies :) I'll keep you all updated :)

ps yes Im used to the snow ;)

I have family who lives in Grand Rapids. I have heard that East Grand Rapids is an excellent school system. The west side of MI is very nice, albeit in the snow belt. My aunt says that lake effect snow looks just like other snow!
