Can anyone talk me off a ledge (or at least tell me my options...)? Somehow failed to make final payment, cruise (obviously) cancelled.

Hi! I'm hoping someone can give me recent experience while I wait 2 hours for DCL phone lines to open up. This will be our tenth cruise, and this has never even come close to happening before. Somehow though, I failed to make the final payment. I distinctly remember having the browser open well before the final date, but obviously I must not have finished it.

I got the email stating it was automatically canceled this morning, and I didn't even have any idea what cruise booking might have been canceled since, in my mind, we had obviously paid this one and didn't have another for several months.

We still VERY much plan to take this cruise. Obviously I could be out the $4000 deposit, pay the higher rate for a guarantee room right now, etc. But that's not really a valid option if there's ANY other choice. 😔

Anyone had a recent experience like this that can tell me what to expect? I searched the forum and only found stuff nearly 20 years old. 🙃

Ugh, I'm a wreck over this. TIA.

Oh noooo! I am so sorry! I do not have any personal advice for you all I can offer is pixie dust! When the phone lines open, explain the situation and let’s hope there’s something they can do for you! Generally speaking Disney seems to usually be pretty accommodating for people, especially now when some folks are looking to cancel. They may be over accommodating to someone who really wants to book! I hope all goes well, please let us know what happens! 🤞🏽

Wishing you best of luck.

Any chance you had made a booking this week on "opening day" that you abandoned, and THAT is what was cancelled ?

That's what I THOUGHT had happened. Unfortunately it was definitely the one we booked almost 18 months ago and are planning on taking in a few months. :( On hold now, a DCL agent is being incredibly helpful (it seems, from what he said before placing me on hold.)

FWIW, on opening day iI was pricing the 8/28/2021 MAGIC fron Dover. In order to get the full quote, I must have hit the reserve button, while my TA was supposed to be using one of my placeholders in order to get the 10% duscount. They were able to get my mistake cancelled, and keep my 7A stateroom. Whew.. Not as scary as yours, but hopefully you've got it sorted out . . .

Christopher at DCL took care of us, no questions asked. Even reverted to the original price, even though I was willing to pay the difference (but really wanted the deposit back if possible). The only thing we didn't get to keep (thus far) was main dining, but a) we've not had a problem changing that in the past and b) if that's the worst that happens, I'll hardly care.

Thanks for your responses.

I most CERTAINLY wouldn't recommend this route to anyone else though, even though it worked out. Not my favorite 2 hours... :duck:

Wow, I’m so sorry to hear this but please let us know how it turns out.

What probably helped too Is I can see DCL having a back- office policy right now saying do whatever you can to maintain bookings as I would think many are canceling right now.

I would think this happens more than you know and I can't imagine disney wouldn't reinstate the reservation. They don't want your deposit, they want the full payment and the room booked and for you to spend a mint on board and to take another cruise. I can't imagine they would tell anyone they are out of luck. I've had more than one (non Disney) online incident where I somehow missed the final confirmation of a payment. It happens and it would be bad business for companies who want your money to not take it from you!

I'm glad Disney did the right thing and I know super stressful!

I agree this is probably more common than you think! People who are used to land vacations where you pay a deposit and then the balance is charged on arrival not paying attention and then missing their PIF. You aren't asking for any kind of upgrade: just what you booked before. Disney is nice about that sort of thing.

One time my grandmother passed away two days before we were supposed to be in Disney World. I called to move it to a month later, expecting to pay a fortune in fees, but once they knew my situation, they moved the trip, free of charge. The airline was not as nice and I lost my entire cost of airfare (the change fees would have been higher than the ticket cost), but Disney at least cares about customer service.

I was in total shock and disbelief when reading your post, thinking man I hope it comes through for you. Glad it did.

My husband forgot to pay in full on our 2nd RCL cruise for our anniversary. This was before you could manage stuff online. I gave him the total riot act, because I had been working so hard and really needed the vacation. Luckily, it wasn't an issue. Have a great time on your cruise!

I’m so happy this worked out for you! 🎉

edit: what is wrong with the tags?
