Hi...Can anyone tell me the best way to deal with this?..Mu use yr is December..I own 320 SSR points.

I have 157 points left that I will get this december...I will also be able to borrow from the next december 08 once december07 rolls around...right?

so ...I have just booked my flights all the way from the UK for Aug 23rd 08 to Sept 2nd 08.....The first night is a saturday so I will stay off site and hope to check into BCV 1 bed on the 24th till the 29th...then weekend off site followed by 2 nights AKLV or SSR or VWL....haven't decided.

What shall I do right now?...iam in the 11 month window for SSR so shall I book a 1 bed there as back up for the 24th to the 29th period.?
i think this will take 120 points so I do have enough in my december 07 to borrow....but what happens if i can only get a studio at BCV once the 7 month window rolls around...what would happen to the surplus points>?

i think if iam borrowing them now that makes them Dec 06 points....so can I even book a 07 vacation with them now?...won't they expire on december 07?

Iam totally confused...please someone explain this to me...:thumbsup2

You would be booking now into your '07 UY, so the points that you borrow from '08 UY will become '07 points.

If you find that you have "extra points" for the trip, I think that you will have enough '07 (157) points to cover these extra. MS can allocate your points for the ressie so that some of those can then be banked into your '08 UY.

When you book your SSR vacation for Sept 24to the 29, that is in your '07 UY and you are not borrowing the points to book that. I say this because you indicated that you will be getting 157 points this December 1.

Ask more questions...I hope I haven't confused you.

Ok so you only have 157 points in your 07UY for Dec 07 to end of Nov 08?? I take it you have already borrowed and used the remaining points?? If so then you can book with the 157 points and if there is any surplus then bank them at the 7 month window as you still then have about 5 months left to bank into 08UY any remaining unused 07UY points.

The critical timing for UY is the date of the stay not the date of the reservation so no you do not make the 157 points 06UY points as they are not being used until the 07UY.

thanks Bobbi..:thumbsup2
Oh..I see...so I wouldn't be borrowing from my dec 07 points because the vacation Iam planning falls into my 07 use year...(even thou its in 08)...is this right.?
so even though I haven't got my 07 points yet...i can still use them without it being borrowing because the vacation is for that same use yr as the points.

I think I get it...if the vacation was for say next month...then I would indeed be borrowing from 07 to 06 use yr.

so if i have any surplus points if i go from a 1 bed SSR to a studio at BC at the 7 month window...then I will still be able to bank those points right?

Any ideas if I should book now or wait?

Don't confuse rules about when you can book reservations with rules about when you can book points (this may be the most misunderstood part of DVC).

When you can make a reservation depends upon your 7 and 11 month windows. Use Year doesn't come into play. As long as you will have the points at the time of your trip, it doesn't matter if you have them when you make the reservation.

Borrowing is an offshoot of making a reservation. In particular, you don't have to wait until December 2007 to borrow your points.

You are in your 11 month window for SSR. You can call now to make a reservation using both 2007 points and 2008 points.

If you make a reservation using 2008 points for a trip in August 2007, you are turning those 2008 points into 2007 point. They must be used by November 30 2007.

So if you book at SSR now using borrowing to get a 1BR, and then only a studio is available at BCV at the 7 month window you might have a problem (see below).

Personally, I think it very unlikely SSR 1BR will be sold out at your 7 month mark. If you are afraid of this scenario, I wouldn't borrow points to get a 1BR. I'd book a studio at SSR now, and the switch to either a 1BR at BCV if available, a studio at BCV is a 1BR isn't available, a 1BR at SSR if nothing is available at BCV, and if everything is sold out, you've got your studio at SSR to fall back on. No worries.

Now, that's the extent of what I *know* is correct.. The tricky issue is what happens if you've made a reservation for a 1BR using both 2007 and borrowed 2008 points, but then want to use less points for a trip in a studio instead. I *think* you should be able to tell MS to use your borrowed 2008 points first in making the studio reservation, then use 2007 to fill the remainder. You can then bank the rest of your 2007 points into 2008. But I've never done such a thing, but it should work. Me? As I said, I'd avoid the hassle and only book a studio. Or decide that I'd only stay in a 1BR, and not move to BCV if only a studio is available.

Good luck.

You are correct about a vacation that would take place next month. Those points would have been borrowed from your '07 UYinto your '06UY!

Because you have bought tickets coming to WDW from UK (how wonderful!), I would want a ressie in my hand. Just because "bobbiwoz" said you didn't have to book now, I would probably book now ( a studio or a 1 bedroom) and dream. From what people say, 1 bedrooms are usually available even after studios are gone...I hope you get a 1 bedroom at BCV if that's what you really want.

Thanks so much for the explanation..Iam grateful to all you guys taking the time to help me out...:)

I think though I'll have enough points (157) from my december 07 use yr to book the 1 bed at ssr ..without borrowing from my 08 use yr...so if thats the case shall i go ahead and book now for the 24th aug to the 29th at ssr....if only a studio is available at BC at 7 months then am i right that I can bank any surplus as I haven't moved those points from their use yr..(07)?

Also the last two nights of my stay..Aug 31st and sept 1st we are crazily hoping to get AKLV 1 bed con...I know this is unlikely and in reality we will take any resort for those two nights...so shall I just wait till 7 months for those...(i would need to borrow from 08 for this)...surely I will be able to get a studio or a 1 bed somewhere at 7 months?

Thanks Claire...I was wondering how long i would have left for banking.:)

I think with the new rules for a Dec UY you would need to bank by July 31st and as an August booking at 7 months would be no later than Jan 31st then plenty of time :)
