Can a SW "bag" be a "box"?

Since we'll be purchasing 3 tickets, which gets us 6 bags each way :scared1: and there's no way in heck I'm dragging along 6 bags... can I make one of our bags a box (of diapers, snacks, juice, wipes, formula.. etc)? Or will it get confiscated or mishandled or torn apart?

Thanks!! :goodvibes

Yes, it can be a box. No guarantees as to its handling but if it's under Southwest's maximum size and weight restrictions, they'll accept it.

Oh, cool. I'm not thinking or expecting it to be handled with kid gloves, I just would hope that it's not ransacked or completely destroyed because it's "suspicious"!

Thank you!

Yes, but if you have a suitcase it will fit in, that's likely far easier to handle. Unless you have a box with wheels and a handle. ;)

I thougth of that, but we have one of those snazzy little luggage carts! (Best $25 I EVER spent!) :goodvibes That, and PHL has curbside luggage drop-off. On the way back, I'm hoping the box will be empty. *fingers crossed*

We always put our stroller in its box to take. I don't need it for the airports, just the parks, so I want to check it and have ME take it to my room for me. I also fill any unused space in the box with water bottles and rain ponchos. I've flown twice using this method and the box is still holding strong and has not been damaged at all. Plan to use it again in July. I do put a large label on the outside that lists my name, flight info, resort reservation number, resort and dates of stay to help if it gets lost. I cover that with a label that has my home address and return flight info to go home.

When you check your luggage they will ask you what is in the box but other than that it is treated as any other luggage.

I don't think you would have an issue in terms of it being ransacked because it is suspicious, but any bag/box can be opened by the TSA. They will do their best to resecure it, but if it's a box and they open it, they may not secure it all that well.

Also be cautious of things that will get ruined if it got wet whether from rain or another passenger packing something like water bottles (or worse) in their checked bag and it spilling on your luggage.
