Define your "action shots". It may be able to, but it depends on what you're shooting and where.

Nice shot of the rider falling. I also like the dust, kicked up from the hooves, in the action shots.

I often got similar comments with my sony F717 back in its day.

The shots it captured are very decent. But there is no way it can capture shots that a DSLR with faster focus speed, less lag, and faster burst would have been able to.

Dont think anyone said they cant handle action, just not ideal IMO.

The fun part of the day was when my friend and his DSLR kept having to change settings trying to get the shots right - enough time spent trying to get his settings that he missed alot of shots. And his end results, by his admission, didn't look as good as mine. Moreso, he will be spending the next week post-processing his photos from RAW...which made him very jealous when he saw how nice the results were from my little camera with no processing.

Sounds like his friend was not a very good sports shooter, nor does the friend have a very good work flow when it comes to RAW images.

either that or there is some untrue boasting going on.

the polo shots all seem a little dark to me, maybe it's my monitor but i can't really see much detail in the legs etc...the action is nice but imo the bragging is a little unfounded

love the owl and the girl's expression although maybe it was the sun and not the giant bird ready to land on their heads

I don't know the specs of the camera, but it did a good job. The only issue that I think might come up would be action shots with less light. That was a good day to be taking actions shots with any camera because it was so bright. If it had been cloudy or inside the shots more than likely wouldn't have looked as good. I actually took a look at the gallery and there are a few in there that are borderline for actually freezing the action. But overall it did a decent job.
