Can a Guest call Member Services?

I just made a reservation for a renter, first time I've done this. Since the reservation is pretty soon and uses borrowed points, the renter has agreed to pay me right away. I told her I would provide the confirmation number when I get payment, and mentioned that she would probably be able to call MS to confirm the number. But then I thought I might be wrong. Will they confirm the dates for her if she says she's calling as a guest? I don't think I want to give out my member number.

Well......I don't know if they are *suppossed* to, but I did.
I just wanted to make sure that everything was OK, and that it was really my name on the reservation. I was so excited, that it was almost difficult to believe it until I called the Member Services number. I also wanted to put down my possible room requests, especially non-smoking. The MS phone number was on my page for the reservation, so I just called to make sure everything was OK. I will be at BWV in December !

They shouldn't do anything without your member number or SSN for verification (but that doesn't mean that they won't). There was a whole debate a while back because someone had called and tried to discuss a reservation with just a confirmation # and MS wouldn't let her (even though she had done it before) so it seems that you're not SUPPOSED to but it happens.

You can have the confirmation sent directly to your renter's address, however. I HAVE heard of people doing a 3 way call with MS in order to confirm with a renter.

I'm not challenging you on this...just asking if you've really done this. I booked a "gift" trip for some relatives and had their name on the reservation. I asked that the confirmation be sent to me and the MS person said that is the way it is done. She said they only send confirmations to the member's address.

That has been my experience also. I have asked to have the confirmation sent to my guests, but have always been told they are sent only to the member's address. The reason is that the member will then know the status of his/her account. In the unlikely event that someone gets your member number, they could not make a reservation without your knowledge since you will receive the confirmation.

In the early years, the member number was even printed on the confirmation- this was stopped several years ago.

when I rented the confirmation was sent to the member, when she made the reservation she telephoned me with the confirmation number, I telephoned member services, verified that it was in my name, added my requests, non-smoking top floor. Then the owner mailed me the confirmation.

Again, MS is not suppose to talk to them. I actually rented points (I am a DVC member) and MS would not talk to me as a member about the ressie another member made in my name.

The way around this is to verify with the front desk of the resort it is booked at. My experience is if the ressie is far out, they need to tell them it is with points (it must somehow be a different look-up) and my renters have always confirmed that way.

MS will not send info to the renter but to the member who can forward it. MS is not supposed to talk to non members other than II exchangers but will sometimes. I've heard you can confirm through the resort and a 3 way call is popular.

Have the renter call the front desk number. They are listed in most books about WDW. She should have better luck that way.

Hadn't thought of that, that's a great suggestion. Thanks! Diana

look for your reservation confirmation letter - at the bottom is member services number - it says please call if you have any questions - my guest have not had a problem calling and confirm the reservation. It does not say member only telephone number.

there is also the resort phone number listed in the resort information at the top of the page.

Maybe it's called "Member Services" and not "Guest Services" for a reason.
