Can a DVC Guide Get Membership # Faster?

They're looking for the member ID number, in order to avoid having 2 separate numbers once the resale closes, not for a better price.

The resale hasn’t closed completely though. Seems like she could buy direct now and then the resale could be matched.

Pretty sure they can't do that. I do know the guide has to go into the membership itself that a member want's to add on to, to input the contract for purchase. Don't know any way they could do that if they don't have the member # active and on the member's account yet.

Right I’m adding on (even though technically I don’t have a membership yet) so he has to wait. He will have access to it before me just because he has a system on his computer with my contract number that will alert him when my account is set up. I’m sure he’s ready to sell points so I’m just going to let his handy dandy computer keep checking for me instead of calling MS a few times a week.

Sweet!! :yay:

I guess what I don’t understand is why does it have to be an add on? If you’re not in the system right now, then just make the direct purchase the master contract. Then they can make the resale the add on.

You don’t understand because she is making it way more complicated than it needs to be. She could buy the 80 points now as a new member and then when the resale is finally processed in Disney’s computer it would be added to the direct purchase account. It’s not hard or complicated. It’s just being made that way.

For what it’s worth, I did exactly what you are suggesting and it was as easy as the suggestion. I closed on a resale on a Friday and on Sunday, Disney announced the 75 point requirement which threw a wrench in my adding on 50 points for perks later (it was always going to be 50 because it worked with the resale contract I found). Called Disney that day and bought the 50 points a new member because while I had closed and the deed was recorded, Disney had not done their magic yet. About a week later my resale contract was finally processed and magically appeared in my account. And obviously my resale paperwork didn’t have my new member number on it. Disney figured it out.

Now if Disney won’t sell her 80 points as a new member, that’s a different story. But that’s not what she has provided as an explanation.

I have a call into my guide to see if I am able to do this. I know there is a 100 min purchase for some resorts but I don't think that is the case with SSR (if they have any points available). The option to go direct first wasn't presented to me by my guide but that may have something to do with me telling him I wanted to be sure everything was good and passed with my resale before purchasing resale. If that's the case I think i'm in a position now that everything with the resale is fine.

The issues is that there is a certain normal flow or pattern to setting up DVC accounts and the CM's blindly follow that pattern. If you don't follow the normal you run the risk of a mistake being made. In the past once a contract was added, even if added incorrectly, Disney did not want to correct the issue. If name were different in title, even a typo, you would get a new membership no matter what. If a resale contract wasn't notated as an add-on to an existing membership, you ran the risk of getting a second membership and there were posts of Disney not correcting the error and the owner was stuck with two memberships. Even buying a new add-on mistakes are made, we bought a contract a few years ago and they didn't add it to our existing UY, they gave us a new one. Good thing that I caught it before closing.

Oh WOW, yeah it's awesome you noticed that.

This is most certainly true. DVC Sales got a new operating system maybe 3 years ago, and from what I have heard from a number of guides I know, and other folks that work in the sales area, it has made a great many day-to-day tasks WAY more complicated than it was previously & it creates some pretty messy situations if anything is done out of the norm.

I did speak to my guide just a little while ago and he advised to wait. If we had started the process a bit sooner it would be okay but with where we are in the resale contract and only waiting on the membership # he said to throw a direct purchase at it right now causes much more room for era and mistakes to be made on the part of MS.

IMHO, that is wise. Especially since it's only a small handful of days to wait. Glad everything is headed in the right direction for you, even if you were thrown a curve. :-) Congrats! :yay:

That, and let's be honest, you haven't had a whole lot of luck with this contract closing thing. Let's not tempt fate so close to the finish line.

Right!!! Turns out the sellers of my resale contract will fulfill their reservation on July 4th. I will be at Disney July 3-6 and I think my guide might be trying to get them to transfer the contract on the 5th because it will be free by then and hopefully find me some points so we can complete the purchase while we are there. He definitely didn’t say that but there was a slight urgency in his tone when he found out we would actually be on property. Who knows maybe we will get lucky

Assuming one is in an area where you can purchase from home, is there any benefit to purchasing while on site versus doing it remotely?
