Can a DVC Guide Get Membership # Faster?

Assuming one is in an area where you can purchase from home, is there any benefit to purchasing while on site versus doing it remotely?

None that I know of, except someone walks you through all the docs and can answer questions. Plus, they set you up with your first DVC Member card! :D And like Disneynutz and Starry_solo say, you also get some nice snacks! :cutie:

Disney gift card, snacks, soft drinks, and anytime fast passes.

The issues is that there is a certain normal flow or pattern to setting up DVC accounts and the CM's blindly follow that pattern. If you don't follow the normal you run the risk of a mistake being made. In the past once a contract was added, even if added incorrectly, Disney did not want to correct the issue. If name were different in title, even a typo, you would get a new membership no matter what. If a resale contract wasn't notated as an add-on to an existing membership, you ran the risk of getting a second membership and there were posts of Disney not correcting the error and the owner was stuck with two memberships. Even buying a new add-on mistakes are made, we bought a contract a few years ago and they didn't add it to our existing UY, they gave us a new one. Good thing that I caught it before closing.

Isn't it better to have multiple memberships versus 1? That way you can do more transfers in 1 year (1 per membership) and can waitlist for more places etc.. I don't see what the benefit is of having 1 membership. Can someone explain?

The best use is to not transfer and not waitlist. The more you do the greater the chance of something going wrong. More than one membership is extra work, more to keep track of and more to go wrong.

I purchased my direct and resale at the same time and ended up with 3 memberships due to a error that resale wasn't connect with direct as 2 are same use year, but not looking at bright side as I am planning a trip in Nov and wanted to put 2 resorts on waitlist. But your right I will have to be careful to not be confused and make a error somewhere w/my points and keeping track annually.

The biggest problem is combining points at 7 months. If you need points for a stay from both contracts, you cannot do that online: first you have to call Member Services to transfer points. Those will not appear online even if transfered before the 7 months window opens, so you have to call MS to book using transfered points. This means you'll be able to book only after 9am, while people who can book online can do so at 8am. This hour difference can be a problem for busy times.
At 11 months it is less of a problem, so if you have two contracts that you intend to use mostly for home resort bookings, the only small hassle is managing the points from two different contracts, with two different banking deadline (and the potential for problems with transfered points).

Thanks for the information. I will make sure to plan in advance.
