Can 5 of us fit in a Natl Intermediate?

Hello,

I think my aunt may be joining us on our trip. I am wondering if three adults and two skinny children, ages 5 and 7, can fit into an Intermediate car from National. The "back seat" adult is a woman of average height, maybe 175 pounds. (she would kill me if she knew I typed that!

I own an intermediate car, a Dodge Stratus, I think it's probably about the average size of most intermediate cars. I've fit 3 average size adults in the back and I've also fit one small adult and 2 carseats in the back as well. They weren't overly comfy, but they fit. I would think 2 kids and one adult shouldn't be a problem.

The only thing I would think about is how much luggage you are taking. If you have any of the big suitcases, they will take up most of the room in the trunk of most cars. If you have smaller suitcases/carryons, at least they will fit on the laps of the backseat riders - not ideal, but would work for the trip back and forth to the airport.

We've fit 2 adults and 3 kids in an intermediate many times with tons of luggage (and even a full-size stroller). It isn't ideal, but as another poster said, if it's only for the trip to and from the airport, shouldn't be a problem. Have a great trip!

We got a Chevy Impala on EI in October. I drive one everyday and it will fit 5 adults comfortable enough. The trunk is also a nice size, 4 med-large suit cases will fit in it. There are usually Mid size SUV's on Emerald isle also.

Both Alamo & National have tried to "foist" a PT Cruiser on us , once as a mid-size SUV .

It was that or nothing, so we took it and I complained when we got home; only got a credit from Intermediate class. I did question it and was told that is it's correct designation.

Aside from the Cruisers on both the intermediate & SUV aisle , we've also seen some sort of saturn & grand ams (which we had once & we're squished with 4 people).

MY concern is moreso in where you're going to put the luggage. If you use the large size bags, no way would you have room for more than 2 or 3 in the trunk space. We always have to stash a piece of luggage in the back seat to make it fit.
