DS will be 10 when we go to WDW in sept. He is a chicken nugget and mac n cheese kind of kid. As far as tickets go, he is now considered an adult. We have the free dining plan and I have read that the kids menus are for ages 3-9. Does anyone know if DS has to order from the adult menu? Or can he still get from the kids menu?

He can order from the kid's menu. My ds did this several times when we were on the dining plan.

if he likes chicken nuggets be happy he is on adult menu as the kids meals are mostly "grilled" chicken, grapes, carrots and milk. Of course some offer more variety, but doesn't sound like he is a variety kind of guy ;)

the "unhealthy" chicken...fried is on the adult choices at CS

I would look closely at the menus before leaving and have a plan for him....
