Cam's New Lease on Life Journal (comments welcome!)

thanks, Tracy! Definitely feeling back to normal except for my feet!
Dont know what the core is but it sounds like its working!!
Glad you are recovering from the marathon :)
Tracey -- core is a weight watchers plan where you eat from a certain list of foods and don't have to keep track of measuring portions or keeping track of points. You meet certain healthy guidelines every day, but otherwise eat core foods until you feel satisfied. My body really seems to do better with the whole grains and lean meats & lots of fruits & veggies on core, rather than all the processed foods I eat when I am on the flex plan.

Cam - :worship: You are my new hero. Not only did you run a marathon, you are back and hitting the healthy eating with a vengeance. Way to go!

Keep up the good work! :cheer2:

Susie -- You are so sweet! Thank you, hon! You certainly brightened my morning!

Well, yesterday was the third all-core day and it went really well. I was having serious junk food cravings last night, all stress-induced (and maybe a bit of PMS, too). I realized I still wanted to get in 1/2 - 1 more serving of fat free dairy, so I made some fat free sugar free chocolate fudge pudding. Amazing what a cure-all chocolate is! While I was waiting for it to set, I had 4 oz skim milk which is on the approved snacks list on core.

Today is looking very manageable.
B: fat free cottage cheese w/diced peaches
L: green salad w/kalamata olives, FF feta & 2 tsp lite olive oil; turkey chili made with 99% FF ground turkey breast
S: 8 oz skim milk (have I mentioned "ICK"?)
D: whole wheat pasta w/diced tomatoes and soy parmesan
S: grapefruit

For snacks today, I have a grapefruit, banana and LF popcorn -- all core snacks.

Hoping to get to the gym tonight and to try the TM (finally). I brought my ipod video with me for the first time since I got it. I am hoping that it will help pass the TM time faster. My objective over the next 3.5 months is to be able to run longer distances in order to be much more successful at the Minnie than last year. At one point back in late October or early November, I was able to jog for 4 minutes straight. I would LOVE to be able to get back to that point and beyond. :yay:

That sounds good Cam, is there anywhere on the internet i could read more
about it?
Loved your pics, which one is you?
The lime green t-shirts where a great idea!
How did the TM go??

Tracey -- I am in the second and third pictures of the thread that refers to the POP Century meet. I am in the white top with the multi-colored pastel jacket. Usually the shortest one in any picture.

This is me with John Bingham, a personal hero of mine. He wrote Marathoning for Mortals which I have used to train for 2 1/2 marathons, a 15K, and the Full Marathon.
The first pic is from Disneyland in September:

As for core, my friend Liz told me you can only get the information on the Weight Watchers website if you pay for a membership. But I'd bet there is stuff on the internet, if you search google or ask.com

Great pictures Cam! I heard John B. speak several years ago. He really is great.

Glad Core is working so well for you. You are really doing awesome.

Hi Cam!

Keep up the good work on your food.... Core sounds like a perfect fit for you!:thumbsup2

Have a great Thursday!:goodvibes

Ahhh there you are :)
I thought that was you!
I love the mickey necklace your wearing :)
I will definatley see if i can find any info on the core, thanks :)

Thank you, guys!
Well, yesterday was day 4 on core and I have lost 4 pounds since Sunday morning when I started. I know it is water but it just confirms for me that I am doing things the right way. Now I just have to stay motivated.
I was so hungry last night before bed and the sugar free chocolate covered caramels and almonds that my friends Carrie and Scott included in a gift basket they sent me in WDW were screaming my name. However, I did resist them (I have to remember to put them in the cupboard -- out of sight, out of mind) and ate a grapefruit. Then I still wanted something else, so I ate a few forkfuls of turkey chili. I really shouldn't have, especially at 10 pm, but it was a fair compromise, I think.
The good thing is I am going to save the candy for next week's WPA and enjoy them then.

I didn't make it to the gym last night to TM. My feet just felt so bad inside the sneakers that I couldn't imagine pounding them on the TM last night. I am hoping they'll feel better by tonight and may even take some aleve or tylenol late this afternoon in the hopes of being pain free come gym-time. :goodvibes: As it turned out, I was so glad I was home by 7:45. I received a beautiful gift from a very precious friend (a bangle bracelet that say "WISHes will come true") and had the opportunity to have a phone visit with my favorite aunt. It was such a nice evening.

Food today:
B (will be) fat free plain yogurt, with frozen strawberries & sweet n low. Already had coffee w/skim milk
L: greek salad w/ff feta & 2 tsp olive oil; turkey chili w/99% FF ground turkey breast
S: apple
D: green beans; corn; 2 small ham steaks, 2 eggs over easy
S: lite popcorn
For snacks, I have a banana, an apple and LF popcorn.

Not sure yet about dinner. I can take the easy route and eat more turkey chili or make some whole wheat pasta, but I don't have any strong preferences right now, so I'll play it by ear later in the day.

Cam, your pictures are AWESOME!!! and you look GREAT!!!

Hope your feet start feeling better, but it really sounds like you have come home & gotten right back on track.

Have a great weekend!

Thank you, Julie! It is hard to believe how much pain can be centered in your toes. And I have to wear heels tomorrow for a luncheon I have to attend! I hope they fit! ;)

Okay, guys, I really am going to the gym tonight. I have to leave work early to take DS to boy scouts so while he is there, I am going to make a quick trip to the gym and hopefully snag a TM, even if it is just for a mile or so.

Go steady on those feet cam!
Well done for resisting the chocolate & losing 4 lb's :)

You are doing great, Cam! Four pounds lost since Sunday is wonderful!:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

Please be careful on those heels tomorrow..... How are your feet doing post marathon?

Have a wonderful Friday!:cool1:

Hi, Tracy & Tracey!
Thank you so much for your support, dear WISH friends!
I ate way too much tonight, but I know it is PMS cravings, and I am crediting myself for sticking to core foods.
I went to the gym tonight and did 5 minutes warm up on the TM and another 25 minutes, for a total of 2.12 miles in 30 minutes (14:09 pace). It felt good just to get the first post-race TM workout done.

Great job on the workout (and great pace too!) :cool1:  . Congrats on the loss - that is fabulous :cheer2:  :cheer2: and finally, way to go resisting the sweets. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Thank you so much, Anna! It was very reassuring to be able to sustain 30 minutes on the TM after having not done much since the full on January 7. Now I am really ready to kick it into high gear to get ready for the Minnie.

So, wouldn't you know it? Just as has always been the case, the only morning I haven't shown a loss since I started back to core on Sunday was this morning. I HATE that I can't lose when I am running. And I know all about toning, etc., blah, blah, blah. But it is so frustrating!!!!

Anyway, the scale was up less than .5 pounds this morning, but maybe it has something to do with PMS. I know my appetite has been out of control and that has to be the explanation.

I have a business luncheon today with no menu control at all, so I am just going to do the best I can. I just found out I don't have to pick up DD at college tonight, so I think I'll dig out one of my old Leslie Sansone tapes and do that for a change of pace. I'll probably try to get up early and get to the gym in the morning for a LR on the TM with my video ipod. FUN!

I wanted to cross post this from the weekly training thread, because I think it is important to remember how I am feeling now and to draw strength and confidence from my experiences:

Okay, guys, can I beg your indulgence for a few minutes? I have been thinking a lot about my marathon experience and truly regretting that I was as miserable during the race as is so obvious from the pictures I have seen. But I just had what my friend Kathy called a "lightbulb moment" -- I was well-trained for this event. I was conditioned and positive in spirit and confident in my ability to finish and I was bolstered by the support of an awesome Team.

When all was said and done, my inability to finish within the required time (by just a few minutes!) and the pain I was feeling during the race was strictly related to my fall and the extreme heat. I had no pain after the race, either, that wasn't related to the fall and the blisters on my feet (due to the heat and my gait being off because of hurting both knees). Even the cramping I had in my right leg sounds like what everyone says was due to the heat and hydration issues.

It has meant a lot to me to be able to come to these conclusions after a lot of obsessing about it. It makes me happy to know that my training was effective and that I had it in me to finish a marathon. I have been belittling my accomplishment in my head and feeling something of a fraud for having a medal I felt so unworthy to have. I realize now I would not let a fellow teammate feel that way and I really want to move on to just feeling pride and no regret. And believe me, I have been suffering severe regret for having slowed down Rhonda, for not enjoying the last 19 miles of the experience, and for not taking the time to high-five or hug every single one of my WISH teammates who stood out there to cheer for us. But I think I've come to peace with all of it. And Rhonda, bless her heart, has never uttered a word of regret (AND she was just as upbeat and fabulous and fresh as she looks in the pix!) I have to get past this all,and just getting back on the TM last night and doing a decent pace was very reassuring.

Here's the reality -- I've completed 4 endurance events in the past year -- my first half marathon was comfortably within the required finish time. The Minnie was hard because of my hip/hamstring injury and the 40+ minute potty fiasco that meant no time to stretch. In retrospect, I am even pleased with my performance in the Disneyland Half, especially considering I was mostly solo (thanks, Kristi, for keeping me company a couple of miles) and I was stupid enough to do it with 2 hours of sleep or so and after being in the parks on my feet. And I recently actually finished a full marathon!

I am so grateful for all the support I have found here and that everyone has encouraged me beyond each experience to seek the next success.
I am really looking forward to the training this year. You guys are absolutely the BEST! :grouphug:  :lovestruc :cloud9: I just wanted to say that and to tell our newest team members that each stride is an accomplishment. Take pride in the fact that you are doing something so good for you, instead of eating bon-bons in front of the tv in every spare moment.

Okay, off my soapbox and out of the confessional!

Food today:
B: coffee w/skim milk; FF plain yogurt w/strawberries
L: spinach salad with mandarin orange pieces(I didn't eat the pecans, bleu cheese and didn't put dressing on it); roasted chicken (skin removed); green beans; potatoes from potato casserole (didn't eat any of the other stuff in it); no dessert
D: steak, baked potato; garden salad w/olive oil & lemon
S: lite popcorn
