Cam's New Lease on Life Journal (comments welcome!)

We were cheering for you in our van yesterday!:cheer2: Did ya hear us? ;)

I hope you are relaxing and taking it easy.... I can't wait to hear all about it when you get back!:cool1:

Just read your race report. Wow! You are such a trooper! How are you feeling? Still all bandaged up? :wizard: PD for fast healing.

Congrats again!!! :cool1: Give that shiney Mickey a kiss for me!

Dena, Where is Cam's report??? I can't seem to find it!

Go to the Events/ section above the journals. It is on page 3 of this week's marathon thind. (It starts with Jan7th......) She posted twice there on the same page.

Also Dena congrats on the baby

Thanks, Dona! I kept looking & looking in the 'race reports' thread, then did a search and didn't find anything.

Cam, you ROCK!!! Please heal quickly and take care of yourself!! That Mickey must be AWESOME!!! When I checked your bib # in the results & didn't see a finish time I was getting really worried!

Hi, everyone! We are still in WDW and I am so glad I am recovering here, rather than at home where I'd have to be "with it" and probably in heels!

Thank you so much for your support and good wishes. I thought of all of you so much on the race course Sunday and I really do believe that your good thoughts and prayers helped me through, literally, the most difficult experience of my life. In the end, I got what I went there for -- my Mickey medal. It wasn't pretty and I would not have made it past the sweepers without my dear race partner, Rhonda (akasleepingbeauty) to encourage me and to help me take care of myself on the course. There were some moments of deep despair and hopelessness and there were moments of optimism and, ultimately, joy -- overwhelming, sobbing, joy! I still can't believe that with as intimidated as I was, I still just did not have a realistic idea of how hard this would be. The really strange thing is, now I feel like I have done it and I know how bad it can be and I am dying to take on the challenge again and meet it with a stronger mind and a stronger body.

As for my injuries, I am doing better. The worst of it is my feet, each of which has a large blister that extends across the balls of my feet and up through my toes. On both feet, the second toe is blistered around and under the nail. On the right foot, there is a blister that is coming out from under the toe nail and there is so much pressure under that toe that there must be a blood blister. My left hand is doing better, but is still covered. The right hand may take a while to heal -- the wounds are open because small chunks of flesh are gone. I am not sure how that will end up healing. I am still favoring my left shoulder though I am not aware of pain. My right wrist is completely better. My palms are still black & blue but my 6 black fingers have faded to blue bruising. Let's see, what else? Oh, my left knee looks like a kindergartener who fell on the playground -- it now has one big scab and several scrape shaped scabs. Oh, very attractive. I am seeing pants suits in my immediate future.
The other strange thing is that my face around the bottom of my nose and all over my chin is covered in pimples and keeps getting little white heads. Looks like some kind of allergic reaction to something, but I think it might be from sweating and maybe the sunscreen I used before the race. I just hope it all clears up before I go back to work.

So, WISH friends, it has been an adventure. I am glad I went through all I did to finish, though I'd rather Rhonda hadn't been penalized by my slow pace. I had my medal engraved with my name and where it asked for time it says "FINISHED." My Garmin says 26.36 miles in 7:12:07. I didnt' turn it off until I was having my chip removed, so we were probably right around 7:11. Still not too bad for a first marathon. We had some great miles early on and it gives me a lot of hope that we can train for a very comfortable finish next year.

Thanks again for all the prayers and support.

I love that you put FINISHED for the time! What a great way to look at it. To me the time doesn't matter. It's how you let the experience change you that does.

Oh Cam,

I am so very proud of you! Reading your race report had me in tears. You are such an inspiration to me!

I love what you had engraved on the back of your medal.... That is so awesome, Cam! You DID finish, sweetie!!!!:cheer2: :yay: Wear that Mickey medal with WISH pride!:goodvibes

You've been through a lot the past couple of years, Cam. This is a huge moment in your life! Treasure it, re-live it (except the pain part ;) ) and be proud of what you have accomplished. I am so proud of you!

Love ya!

~Tracy

Cam - you did it!!! it sounds like it was a really brutal race for a lot of people, but fact remains YOU FINISHED! Great job! You are now a MARATHON WOMAN. Only a very small percentage of the population (2%?) can make that claim, so be proud. :cheer2:

:wizard: that you will heal quickly :grouphug:

Well done Cam:cool1:
We are all sooo proud of you :grouphug:

My DB did the London marathon a few years ago, & i remember the state of his feet afterwards, so i feel for you, but he still said it was the best thing hes ever done :goodvibes

Nice place to recover though :thumbsup2
Put your feet up & relax around the pool, give mickey a hug from me!

Thank you so much, my dear WISH friends. I have missed all of you and have missed living the WISH motto every day.

I am ready to get back on track with healthy living and a more structured exercise plan.

I was strictly on WW core yesterday and am so proud I made it through the day and past a LOT of unhealthy temptations.
Yesterday's foods:
B: fat free cottage cheese with chunks of pineapple; coffee w/skim milk
L: apple
D: 99% fat free turkey chili; barley mixed with corn, kidney beans & salsa

water -- 40 oz (not enough)
vitamin -- no (working on getting back into the routine)
healthy oils -- yes (canola oil in chili)
F/V -- tons! :)
dairy -- yes -- skim milk & fat free cottage cheese

Today is the second day back on WW core for me. I am down .6 from yesterday, confirming that my body really wants to get back into its normal range and likes core.

Today's plan:
B (still haven't eaten food): coffee w/skim milk
L: barley, corn, kidney beans w/salsa mix; extra lean turkey chili
D: oven crisped potatoes w/olive oil; diet coke chicken; corn, kidney bean & salsa mix

water: 60 oz as of 9:20pm
vitamin: yes
F/V: 6 servings
healthy oil: 2 tsp olive oil on oven crisped potatoes

)GF Tea Saturday- Definitely
Pedicure on Sunday- Absolutely
Dinner Saturday- Anywhere is fine with me
Adventurer's Club- You bet.
Dinner on Sunday night- Sounds good. 'Ohana would be fun.

I made it to the gym tonight. 9 miles on the bike in 45 minutes. It felt good to do something without putting too much strain on my feet & toes. :woohoo:

Great job getting on the bike at the gym and getting right back into Core. :cheer2: How are your feet and other parts healing?

Thanks for asking, Anna! My feet are still an absolute mess but the pressure under the toe nails from the blood blisters seems to be lessening, thank God. I still wasn't ready to treadmill last night. I actually took a picture of my feet last night to remember next year to be really careful about keeping my feet at the back of my shoes. Not sure how I put so much pressure on my toes, but I think I must have been, literally, draggging my feet.

You're doing great, Cam!:cheer2: How are you feeling post marathon?
Hi, Tracy! Thanks for asking. Remarkably, I feel absolutely great. All the fall-related injuries have healed except my hands, which I am sure will have some scarring for a while, and my left knee which is still sore and scabbed. I am really surprised (pleasantly) that I had no significant, long-lasting aches and pains from going 26.2 miles. In the past, I have had a really rough time with my right hip and hamstring and I am grateful that all the conditioning and stretching I did seems to have paid off.

Well, dear WISH friends, I made it through my second day on core and my scale was down another 1.9 pounds! That makes it down 2.5 since I re-started core on Sunday morning. I know alot of that is the result of getting back to drinking my water. So, I am just going to keep moving forward and hope for long-term success.

Today's food plan:
B: fat-free cottage cheese w/diced fruit; coffee w/skim milk
S: skipped - not hungry enough to make time for it
L: turkey chili w/99% FF ground turkey breast; green salad w/fat free feta and kalamata olives w/2 tsp olive oil
S: banana
D: last bit of diet coke chicken w/whole wheat pasta
S: 4 oz skim milk (ICK!); SF/FF chocolate fudge pudding (including 1 cup skim milk)

Core requirements & HEG (I am going back to Tracy's old habit of using :sunny: to show success! It makes me think of Tracy's positive attitude and it makes me smile! :flower3: )

dairy(2): :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:
vitamin(1): :sunny:
F/V(5): :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:
healthy oils (2 tsp): :sunny: :sunny:
water (64 oz): 70 oz as of 10:30 pm

UPDATE after WW WI:
Progress since 1/14/07 toward goal of losing 15.6 by 5/4 when I leave for Minnie Marathon Weekend: 2.5/15.6 = 13.1 to go
(My scale this a.m with no clothes was .5 less than fully clothed at WW tonight; but I am going with my home scale so that I can monitor every day, rather than once a week)

I'm glad to hear that you are doing well post marathon!:goodvibes It sounds like Core is the plan for you.... You are doing great!:thumbsup2

Hope you have a great Tuesday!

Dont know what the core is but it sounds like its working!!
Glad you are recovering from the marathon :)
