Am looking for tips and suggestions for camping with our Aussie mix, we see others with their dogs and always miss ours. We plan on basically hanging around and not going to any parks when we go. But we will want to go swimming and would leave the dog in our POpup with the AC on.we figure we will play with him and take him to the doggie area to run and tire him out and he will sleep when we are swimming.Any suggestions. About camping with our dog would've appreciated, aside from obvious good
etiquette with his behavior and picking up after him. He is a very friendly dog and not a big barker, so I think he'd do ok.

Well let me tell you about something that happened to us-- We were not at FW but---- let dog back at camp. Thunder storm came-- our sweet dog that is generally not afraid of thunder clawed the soft part of our set up and ripped it to shredds. Wondering if boarding him at home may work out better for dog and doggies mommy and daddy.

They just become frightened being in a strange place with no one to comfort them. You could always make sure there are no impending storms.

Since you don't plan to leave the campground, I don't imagine you would have any problems. We carry a collapsible kennel for our dog to stay in when we leave the camper. I think she sometimes stays calmer in it than if we left her loose in the RV.

If you are only planning to leave her while you swim, you shouldn't have problems due to storms.

In the past you were not supposed to leave an animal alone in the pop-up or tent but I believe this rule has changed.

Hi, we have taken our older large dog a few times with us in our pop-up at the fort. We have taken her on long wallks then went swimming for about an hour or two and checked back on her. She was fine. We always made sure the air was on for her with food and water. She really enjoys it there (and so do we!)

we have taken our dogs to FW for years my brittany and chocolate lab loved going camping there and many other places when we first started taking them they were crated and after they got use to the camper and older they would get partial roam of the camper we always would leave them either the tv or radio on so as to give them something so they didnt hear every noise outside and start barikng never had any problems they both made yearly trips from NJ to the fort for the last 10 years or more both have since passed and this year will be our new rescue dogs first disney trip we took him to Capemay in early June and he had a blast looking forward to our trip to the fort with our dog

Dogs are Not to be left unattended in soft-sided camping structures -tents/pop-ups at Ft. Wilderness. It's a safety rule and it is definately still in effect. (Some people do ignore the rules. If you do though, you run the risk of one of your "neighbors" reporting you).

We just returned from the Fort this past weekend. And that rule has actually changed. And we made sure when we checked in. If you are in a tent or pop-up you have to leave your pet in a Crate when leaving . We have a jack russel and a tiny chihuahua. We left them in a large crate with the tv on and of course the AC. They were just fine.

I for one was glad they changed the rule for tents/pop-ups because the kennel is now way too expensive for us. The last time we were at the fort, five years ago, it was different. You could not leave your pet unattended in a tent or pop-up. You had to kennel them. But is was much more affordable, and there was a nice kennel right there at the fort.

Have fun with your fur baby and enjoy the dog park. Ours loved it!

Going to bring my will be 8 month old Boxer (Gunner) down with us in August. I don't think he will enjoy the ride from OH but I'm sure he will love saying hello if you stop by the campsite! This will be our first time at the Fort with a pet! Kinda nervous/excited.
