Camping VS Hotels

We have been camping for years, cooking our own meals, sleeping in our own beds, relaxing by the fire.
Thats the problem with hotels, they hate it when you have a camp fire in your room.

We love FW as well. DH and I camped there many times as children with our families and we have many special memories.
We recently bought into DVC at WL and DH is a little sad there will be fewer trips to FW. Our long term plan is to have our (future) teenagers in a tent at FW and us in comfort at VWL. This fall we're doing our first attempt at bringing our camping gear on the pane. 2 nights before we head to SSR. Wish us luck.

I'm so glad I came across this thread! My DH and I are thinking of getting a Class C in the near future. Thinking of renting one to make a trip to northeastern states and into Canada to make sure we like RVing before making the big investment. Love all the input and suggestions here! Thanks!

I agree with all of you, camping and camping people are the best! We have a TT and for the last 2 years it has been our main vacation vehicle by choice and by budget. We don't feel we have enough experience to make a 16 hour drive to FW yet, so the free fall dining lured us back into a hotel.

Do you think if we disable the overhead sprinklers we could actually get the smores done this time!? Too funny! :rotfl2:

Well our first trip bringing it to Disney will be Jan 08 and that will be my first time using ours. I prefer our 1 or 2 bedroom accomodation at the DVC resoers full kitchen and jacuzzi tub yep that is camping to me LOL.

Our first trip to Disney (no kids) we camped in a tent. Had a great time, but the thing I liked most was the early morning boat ride to MK. It was so peaceful and a great way to start a day.

This will be our 2nd trip--about 20 years later and with 3 kids. We will be staying at ASSp, but I still think of how great it was camping.

You know want I love about Hotels and DVC is sleeping in that bed with all those other people. You Know that bed spead may get washed 1 time a year. My Motor home has a Full kitchen we also have a jacuzzi tub. Can't wait to sleep in my own clean bed.

Well we wash the sheets and comforter when we check in so I am not to concerned about those things even the bedding from teh sleeper sofa or the otehr 2 beds whichever type of room we happen to be in.

I was introduced to camping by my better half, What a difference in the people you meet. You can be in a million dollar coach, and a tent will be on the site next to you. The families will probably have a good time meeting each other... Try that in a Hotel!

Even if darling hubby doesn't want to do the parks... FW is the best for just hanging out!!

FW is the only place I will actually go and camp I did far to much camping when I was a kid and now can't really say I am excited or enthused about sleeping in a trailer or a tent. I prefer the hotel atmosphere but for WDW and to extend our trip to 3 weeks from 2 I will do it LOL.

32 hours? Wow...we live in Maine and I don't think the driving was that much but if you are going through DC well, that is something that we don't do anymore. Take 91 south in CT to 84 West in NY to 81 and it will lead you AROUND the high traffic areas, not to mention the scenic views. The only drawback is the hills!

Nancy

I have to 2nd this!...we're in southern NH and make the trip to FL in about 2 1/2 days (the full days are around 10 hours, including stops). Of course we're not pulling a camper so if the OP is, that could make all the difference. We left the NY/NJ/metro DC area in the dust long ago!! Will never do it again. We get outselves over to I-84 in NY state, to I-81 in PA and that goes all the way down into NC. We don't pick up I-95 again until southern SC (almost GA) and it's a breeze from there!

(and I've checked the mileage and it's only 22 miles further to go the way we do than straight down I-95...WELL worth it!)

My husband wouldn't even think of the DC bypass. It's much nicer going I81. We hook up with I95 in Virginia (via I66-RT17).

I think the reason it takes us 32 hours rather than 26 - 28 is the fact we are only driving at 55-60 mph. This speed adds at least 3-4 hours each way. If we drove 65-70 we would get there faster.....but I'd have more grey hair. We feel safer driving the motorhome at 55-60.

Going down we usually only stop for a couple of hours rest (not included in the 32 hours). On the way back we stop for 6-8 hours of rest.
