Camping in July...

Hi,
We may be crazy for even thinking of doing this but as the kids get older it is harder and harder to find times other than March and July! And add the Canadian dollar and I am looking at alternatives. I have given up on the idea of bringing our pop up in July, but what about renting a 38 foot fifth wheel that has central A/C? Would those units work in the humidity to make it comfortable?

Any insight as far as people's experiences in July? I know some said they would never do it again, but any positive feedback?

We typically vacation in June, July and August due to school schedules too. Renting a camper with A/C will give you some place to escape the heat and sleep well at night. That is all we need to manage. After that, it is coming up with a park plan to maximize shows and rides inside with A/C during the hottest part of the day. Some hit the parks early, come back to the Fort around lunch, hang out at the pool or in the RV until late afternoon and then head back out to the parks around dinner time.

We're bringing our 5th wheel in July. We've done an August trip as well. With an AC, you should be fine. But we bring a small fan to circulate the air in our kids bunkbed room, just in case.

Does your pop-up have an AC in it? If not is it possible? I am just thinking that rental on a Fifth wheel could get expensive enough that it might make it more worthwhile to add an AC to the pop-up. Also a "Portable AC" could be an option too. (So if you need spot cooling when you get back home you have it there as well.)

I don't know what it costs to rent a fifth wheel, but I imagine for a trip from Canada to WDW you would need at least a week (and probably longer) and could be looking at at least a couple hundred a day rental which puts you in the thousands overall. That could certainly get bought and installed an AC on the top of the Pop-up (assuming it can handle it).

Just a thought. Either way I hope you have an awesome trip.

I had a second A/C added to my TT for about 800.00

Wow.... $800? I think I'd opt for the Portable AC.

Either way, it's still probably cheaper then renting a 5er for a week (or so)

I was thinking if you are renting a 38 footer, it may have 2 ACs on it. I have a 35 ft and 1- that run 15000btu(?) it works. in shade much better than full sun. Our last trip was june and it was cooking. enjoy, I would go 5th wheel over pop in july.. Had a hybrid and know how hot they can get with the canvas. If you do pop-up you can put reflective tarps on end, as well as insulated bubble wrap in windows to reflect heat. It works, but will still be hot. AC is still required. PM for info.
