We are going to go camping next weekend, so I am putting together my menu. Since we are camping at the beach and will go fishing, we are going to eat some of the fish that I cook, but need more ideas along with what I already have. What do you make or what would you like to eat when you go camping?

I've had those prepackaged meals before. They look like MRE's but they aren't. Some you can even cook in the pouch! They have a lot of braekfast stuff too.:sunny:

I'm not a big camper, but when I do go, I have to have hamburgers and hot dogs. Doesn't feel like camping without them. And lots of watermelon!:D

We will break the eggs and put them in a jar, then when you want them, pour them out, or shake them to scramble. We've had kabobs, shrimp, chili, tacos, ribs, buscuits & gravy, you name it. Kabobs are easy, cut everything up and season before you go, put them in bags till ready. Prepare meals before hand, then just warm them up, that's the easiest.

Foil Packs!

In heavy duty foil put:

ground beef, sliced potatoes, sliced carrots, sliced onions, salt, pepper.

Seal foil. Wrap with another piece of foil. Place in camp fire for about 40mins, turning after about 20 mins.

We just open the foil on a plate and eat! (I like mine with ketchup!)

Foil Packs are the best! You can also make them with chicken...Yummy! Try adding salsa, too. Do a search for campfire cooking, you'll get tons of hits with lots of creative ideas.

We do the normal BBQ foods. You will have the outdoor grill won't you? Hot dogs, burgers, steak etc... I also have a portable gas stove and use that to make sides. I don't really do anything different than I would if I were at home. Make sure to take the marshmallows though! :) Just be sure that you keep all food tightly sealed too. You don't want any surprise visitors in the middle of the night.

Yes, we usually have steaks, hot dogs, eggs, and such. I might try the foil packets, and is also planning on making teriyaki hamburgers, marinating some shortribs, and veggies.

ok, for breakfast a fav easy cleanup meal is Astronaut eggs...

you boil water in a large saucepan... then in a ziplock freezer bag, combine eggs, a tad of milk or water, and any other fixins you have, salsa, cheese, ham, etc, dump it in... then squeeze to scramble, then, drop in the boiling water to cook, when done, you eat out of the bags, and ez cleanup!!

now we make anything and everything camping we do at home, but we do cast iron cooking, dutch ovens, we bake pizza, cobblers, dump cakes, a great mountain man breakfast etc...

we've also done stuffed french toast, stews, chicken and dumplings, steaks, tacos...

with the foil packets, please bring a thermometer to check the meat, when we do these with scouts, we insist, and we are always surprised at how some are really cooked well, and others are raw..

our foil packets we include a , we buy the pre made frozen hamburger patties, and a handful of tator tots, frozen veggies, and then we toss sauce on it... we've done it other ways, but when we're feeding 45 people, we make it easy, and we make an assembly line... but again make sure you do the thermometer trick!!

Bacon

wear shorts...........don't ask

My DH used to camp a lot in Yosemite backwoods. He would buy those (very expensive and not so tasty) dehydrated bagged foods that you can add boiling water right into the bag. If you are packing in instead of driving to your campsite, of course you don't want to take canned goods and the like. The best idea he came up with was to empty two packets of instant oatmeal into a freezer strength ziplock bag. Add boiling water, mix it up, and eat it right from the bag..works great, you can even prepackage them before you leave... And to maybe go a little further with monkeyboy's bacon idea, they now make packages of precooked bacon that requires no refrigeration. Then you could still wear your shorts..

Make sure you take enough food in case the fishing ain't so good!! Have a great time..camping in Hawaii sounds like heaven..::yes::

Do you have refrigeration available or not? We don't, so we take things that don't have to be very refrigerated. Things that should be kept cold, such as eggs or drinks, we sit in the running creek. We usually camp when it's colder out, so refrigeration is not a problem if I freeze things. We make mac & cheese, rice, eggs with bacon. I buy beef or chicken soup mix (the dry kind in the packet). Bread. Skippy now makes squeezable peanut butter in these long tubes which works well for PB & J. We catch fish or hunt for our meat and if we don't get anything that day, well mac & cheese it is. Beef jerky. I make homemade snack mix with nuts, m&m's, raisins, coconut and put into bags. Instant oatmeal or cream of wheat. Make sure to tie your food up in a tree away from your campsite so bears and other wild animals cannot get to it. Never leave food in your tent.

We don't have to worry about bears and other wild animals where we are going cause we are camping at the beach. We will need to pack things up so that the mongooses doesn't come to take it.
We will have a bunch of coolers with enough ice to last us throught the trip.
I have and will also on this trip, marinade chicken at home so that I can just toss it on the grill.
I was thinking that maybe I could take some fillets of salmon for our first night.
hrh_disney_queen-I always pack up extra food and everything else, but I know what you mean about not catching fish. Hopefully they will cooperate with us. DH is going to bring his big fishing pole, so hopefully he will catch a BIG fish.

to save on room, take food out of it's packages and place it in ziplock bags. If there are recipes on the box, just cut them out and place them in the bag. This will cut down on the amount of space.
