Me again. ;)

Has anyone ever stayed in a campground where the rules stated that dogs are not to be left unattended. We are going camping on the coast of MA for nine days in July and both campgrounds have that rule.

If you did, what did you do. Did you ignore the rule and hope the dogs don't bark their heads off :teeth: , or did you bring the dogs whereever you went?

Gosh I hope my mom and dad volunteer to move into my house and take care of the two brats. ::yes::

We boarded the dog before we left home. I'm not comfortable leaving her in the camper alone, even in her crate.

We've left our dogs in the fifth wheel camper at several such campgrounds. Since they're not barkers, except when we walk up and they hear us, it's never been a problem. We usually leave the tv or radio on low, it seems to soothe the dogs and also if you do happen to hear anything inside it's probably the tv. We also leave lots of toys and rawhide bones.

Our last trip to FW, we left our bassett and yorkie in the camper when we went to the parks with no problems. I know you do have to have a hard side camper (ie. not a pop-up) in order to leave your pets alone at FW.

I guess it really just depends on the temperament of your furry babies.

Laurie:tongue:

If we are just doing an activity within the campground we will leave them in the camper, however if we will be venturing away from the campground we hire a pet sitter to move into our house and take care of them. They are getting old and while in great shape, I'm not sure they would do well at a Kennel. They are big babies.

Thanks for your replies. While I think Beanie would do fine in a kennel, Otto is a big chicken and a mama's boy.

I did find a good website that lists pet friendly places on the Cape. If we were taking an all day excursion (like MV), I'd want to bring the dogs, but if we were just going to the beach for a few hours, I don't see why it would be a problem to leave them in the trailer. I like the idea of keeping the TV or radio on.

Although they do bark a bit at passers-by (especially other dogs), they aren't all day yappers. They like to sit on the slide out bed and look out the window.

I would be less than truthful to say we had never left Natasha in the pop up alone.

I have found that while she likes looking out the window, if we are not going to be around keeping it dark (curtains closed) and added background noise (radio/A-C running) helps keep the barking down.

An open curtain/window invides barking at passing dogs and people. If you have one window that overlooks a wooded/unoccupied area, keeping just that window open may work.
