Campfire and Movie?

Here's what you do,,
1. read a few threads down
2. there you'll find a thread called, "CAMPFIRE: 7 or 8:00? "
3.read that thread.

This question gets asked a lot.

I am surprised that the campfire/movie times are not covered in the FAQ's, but it looks like they are not.

So, to give you a specific answer to your question, here is the schedule for the campfire and movie. During Daylight savings time (Since 2007, DST begins the 2nd Sunday in March and ends the 1st Sunday in November- so in 2009 it began on March 8 and will end on November 1), the times are:

7:30- Fires lit
8:00-8:30- Sing-a-Long
8:40- Movie Starts

During Standard time (begins November 1 in 2009), the times are:

6:30- Fires lit
7:00-7:30- Sing-a-Long
7:40- Movie Starts
9:15- Second Movie Starts (Fri. and Sat. only)

Note that during standard time, there is a second movie played on Friday and Saturday night.

Let's see, what else do you need to know?

What movies are playing?

The movie schedule is posted monthly by FW management. It is rarely available before the first of each month. You will be provided a schedule when you check in. There is also a board which lists the movies posted at the campfire area. The movie schedule is also usually posted here on the Disboards as a sticky. The schedules are transcribed by Disboard members who get the schedules at the same time they become available to everyone else.

How is the campfire area set up? Do you need to bring chairs?

Here is an aerial photo of the area with the various features marked:

As you can see, there is bench seating, with backs on the benches, as well as bleacher seating in the back. You can also bring blankets and lay them out in the gravel area in front of the stage and movie screen. The center aisle is paved, and is available for wheelchairs. You can also bring folding chairs, but these will need to be placed in areas where you will not be blocking the view of the folks on the benches. There is plenty of room to find a place for your folding chairs, if you wish to bring those.

Can you buy marshmallows, sticks, etc. there? What else is available?

Here's a photo of the chuckwagon menu:

I will need to get a better photo without the glare some time. The item listed right in the middle of the glare is a Smore's kit. It includes two sticks, a small package of graham crackers, a ziplock baggie full of marshmallows, and two standard Hersheys bars. I think you can make about 8 smore's with the kit. You are also more than welcome to bring your own sticks, marshmallows, and smore's ingredients. Some people even roast hot dogs.

I think that covers everything.

What else do you need to know?

Wow, TCD, thank you for the info! We also want to do the campfire for our trip and I am going to mark this in my favorites page so I can use it as a reference. I also have a question, it is trivial, but was curious if you knew if they serve hot chocolate as well in December?

Would it be difficult to do the campfire sing-a-long, then get a bus to go do a sleigh ride, then get back on the bus to catch the 2nd movie on a Sat. night or should we watch the first movie, then do the sleigh ride?

OT, can you see just as much from the internal bus without paying $60 to do a sleigh ride? We are wanting to see the Christmas lights at the fort during dec. Thanks!

I asked for questions, and I got questions.

So, lets get you some answers:

Q: I also have a question, it is trivial, but was curious if you knew if they serve hot chocolate as well in December?

A: I need a "Watchutalkin' about Willis?" smiley. Hot Cocoa is right there on the menu. Do you see it? So, my unqualified answer is yes, they will have it in December. :confused3

Q: Would it be difficult to do the campfire sing-a-long, then get a bus to go do a sleigh ride, then get back on the bus to catch the 2nd movie on a Sat. night or should we watch the first movie, then do the sleigh ride?

A: What's this sleigh ride business? I saw someone else ask about it. Are there sleigh rides at Ft. Wilderness? I thought they were at Wilderness Lodge? I don't nothing about no sleigh rides. If you are talking carriage rides, yes I don't see why you couldn't go and do that and be back in time for the second movie.

Q: Can you see just as much from the internal bus without paying $60 to do a sleigh ride? We are wanting to see the Christmas lights at the fort during dec.

A: You really can't see much from one of the internal buses. They stick to the main roads, and you really can't see much of the campsites from there. The sleigh ride that I am familiar with I thought only traveled the path between Ft. Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge, but maybe there is something new being offered that I don't know about? The carriage and wagon rides will take you around some of the loops, so you will see some of the decorations. If a sleigh ride costs $60, you know what I would do before I dropped sixty bucks on that? I'd rent a golf cart for about $50! That's what I would do. You could drive that sucker wherever you wanted, and keep it all day. That would be the best way to see the Christmas decorations.

TCD

p.s. If anyone knows anything about sleigh rides at Ft. Wilderness- feel free to give me a hand here.

Thanks.

Sorry I said "sleigh" ride instead of carriage ride. I guess because it is in Dec. and Christmas is on the brain.
Thanks for the info.

The WL carriage ride has been discountinued.

We are staying off-site and wondered if we can go to this? I saw somewhere that it says open to WDW Resort guests? We've gone to the Poly before and watched Wishes from the beach.

Our plan would be to go for the Sing-along, then watch Wishes and the EWP from the beach. Thanks for youe help!

Any resort guest (or really any guest) can attend the campfire program, I have never seen resort id's checked there.

Something you will have to research though, is how to get there. If staying offsite, you park at the main FW lot in the front and ride the internal bus, exiting at the Meadows.

If you are staying at a resort, depends which one. WL, Contemporary and Polynesian(?), take a boat. Other resorts bus to an open theme park and then bus to FW.

FW is a terrific place to visit but it takes some work to get there if not staying there.

What about the fireworks at the marina,do you miss them during the movie,or...?

What about the fireworks at the marina,do you miss them during the movie,or...?

More than likely, yes. The fireworks at the Marina cannot be seen from the Meadows Campfire area, you will have to 'choose' which one to attend.

The fireworks schedule at the Magic Kingdom varies. For most of October, for example, the fireworks go off at 9 pm. Since the movie starts at 8:40, you will have to make a choice. On some nights in November and December, though, the fireworks go off at 10 pm, so you could easily watch the movie, which begins at 7:40 in November and December, and see the fireworks too.

During certain nights in October, you can watch the Hallowishes fireworks, which are a part of the MK's Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party, from the marina. Same thing during the Christmas parties at the MK.

Is the campfire at Fort Wilderness now finished for the winter?

I was hoping to go on the 24th November for some smores & a movie,,

cheers

The campfire/movie is 365 days a year.

On rare occasion, if it is raining really hard, it will be cancelled and the Chip n' Dale Sing a Long will still be held on the back port of Meadows Trading Post
