Campaigns "exploiting" our fears

That is most politicians MO...but Mccain has voted against more Bush proposals...what Dem's have voted against party lines...I'll tell you now that Obama and Hillary aren't among them...and for the record...if I was a Democrat I would be voting for Hillary..all I can think when I hear Obama speak is the old adage from a commercial years ago...."Where's the beef":confused3

Well - Hillary's repeatedly voted with the Republicans when it comes to terrorism - the vote to use force if necessary in Iraq (which is hurting her with some Dems).

And yes - I too, remember that "where's the beef" line and have also associated it with Obama. I am often told that I can find "the beef" on his website.... ;)

It's an important issue of our time and isn't going away, so it does really need to be addressed. I'm just not buying into the argument that anyone who brings it up is attempting to exploit our fears. I think it's just as ridiculous as accusing people of exploiting economic fears by discussing a recession.
.

:thumbsup2 ITA

This commercial is not an exploitation at all. Even Obama has decided to use the same commercial, with a slightly different ending. And we all know he is above exploitation!:rolleyes1

It is a fact that every sitting President (since the advent of telephones) had one of these 3:00am 'HOLY CRAP we are all gonna die' type calls! It is a very valid issue.

We do not live in a "The sun will come out tommorrow, join me on the good ship lollipop" world, and there is some really really :scared1: stuff out there. One MUST take this thought and think who would best be able to handle this crisis, when going into the voting booth.

Ironically, Clinton says that her policy stands are very similar to Obama's, does that make her a veggie sandwich too?

But from a policy point of view, is the closing of Gitmo the principal policy or program difference between McCain and Bush?

This is a valid debate, but McCain is clear with this action in acknowledging the importance of trying to regain our credibility with the rest of the world.

Their Domestic policies/ideas etc. are close. Their Foreign policies ideas are different.

This was FINALLY touched on in the last debate. Twenty Debates before someone asked them "GOP" type questions! AGGGGGGGGGGGGH!:upsidedow

Well a difference in policy is not the same as an absence. So that leaves the question, if they have very similar (darn near identical) policy stands as vetted during the debates, and we find that Obama has nothing to offer, then by definition don't we find that Clinton has nothing to offer?

Or is this "where's the beef" stuff more crying over spilt milk?

Right - that's where they differ. He repeatedly suggests that that vote to authorize force to go into Iraq - if Saddam didn't let the inspectors back in - was the wrong decision.

She is much more hawkish than he is in foreign policy.

And this is where people forget - HER state was attacked. She made the best decision for her constituents at the time.

A majority of the Democrats voted with the Republicans when it came to terrorism...it was the flavor of the day...but now that the war has dragged on it's the reason we need "change"...well we had change in the Senate and what promises has Pelosi and her crew kept...how much have we heard from her and the others now that both Democrats and Republicans agree that the surge is working in Iraq...nada...nothing!!!!!

Yes - I think some terror alerts are fake. This I know because during the 2004 election - they issued one for NYC and Mayor Bloomberg said it was years old....

I think they timed that video release - yes - right before the election. The incumbent candidacy always has an advantage on those types of things.....

I would not be surprised at all - if the Bush Administration threw a helping hand to McCain with a terror alert.

And yes, I think FOX NEWS exploits them the most......

ITA. I live in NW NJ and I heard all those terror alerts too.

Actually, starting to watch the timing of those terror alerts was one of the things that woke me up. I started to notice how they coincided with votes for $$ on the Hill, at election time or when news was breaking that the Administration would rather people not notice.

It's interesting there hasn't been one in a long while. Perhaps terrorists take winters off.

Well - they don't have a large majority in the Senate right now to change anything. Hopefully that will change in November.

As far as the surge - maybe it is working - but come on - it took them 5 years and how many lives sacrificed - before they did anything?

This war has been horribly mismanaged from the top!

That is why the Dems want to end it.

Its funny how Bush was the candidate that didn't want to nation build - now the tables are turned.......

but her state was not attacked by Iraq-perhaps if she'd read the information that was made available to Senators prior to the vote she would have had her memory refreshed on that issue. Senator McCain didn't read it either-it appears only 6 senators felt that it was important enough to review before the vote and NONE of them are running for President.

NOW the TERROR COLOR chart is a perfect example of EXPLOITATION!!!!
Along with "we dont know where, we dont know when...BUT "They" are coming...and it will be BIG"!!!:sad2:

They have a MAJORITY and NOTHING has changed...a lot of talk and rehtoric during the elections but staus quo since...now the surge is working and not a peep!!!

I still don't see how terror alerts benefit the Republicans over the Democrats at this juncture. I don't think people are so easily manipulated, but I just might not be cynical enough.:confused3

Oh hey now, the Bush gang is out there catching these terrorsits and making us all safe. They can't tell us where, or when, or who, or what because it's all a secret.

In fact he has a list of names of suspected terrorists...or was that a list of names of suspected Communists...or was that McCarthy? I get my fear mongers all mixed up after a Grey Goose or two.

Right - she made the mistake of trusting the national security briefing.....

Come on - none of them "read" the patriot act either - yet most voted for it at the time.

And you are correct - Iraq did not attack this country - but - for a while there - we were all sort of in a post trauma stress deal.

I don't know about you - but those first terror alerts after 9\11 - worried me considerably. I'd drive around thinking - if I were a terrorist - I'd do XYZ to the good people of NJ\NY. I'd go to a mall -- wonder if they could attack there - the movies - heck - down the Garden State Parkway (remember that shooter in DC\MD?)

I admit it - I was spooked.

I do not hold that vote against her at all.
