Camp Chairs, bring or not?

This trip will be our fist to the Fort but by no means our first camping trip. We camped last week and I was noting that there are quite a few of our normal camp supplies that we wont be needing at Disney because it's not going to be the same type of trip. Usually when we camp there is a lot of time spent sitting around a campfire at our site roasting things or playing games and such. I realize at the Fort I will be at the parks and pools most of the time. With the fact that we wont be having campfires at our site I'm wondering how much use my camp chairs would actually get. They take up a lot of room and to be quite honest room is at a premium for this trips packing. I was thinking of maybe taking 1 or 2 but not all 5 of our chairs. We are traveling in a minivan with 5 people. We have a roof top carrier and a tailgate rack but to be honest the AC unit and the mini fridge take priority over camp chairs for space, lol.

What's your opinions on brining or not bringing the chairs? :confused3
Thanks a bunch :goodvibes

Bring chairs. It is called your "comfy down time". You will regret not being able to relax at your site, sitting in your comfy camp chairs, after dark, relaxing, drinking something cool, and just chillin! Have a great time. We have to wait 83 days til our visit.

I'm going to vote for chairs as well for the exact same reason bjschil did - chillaxing down time. But I guess you could envision how your chill time will be spent - kiddos that will just chill on their beds or be out running around anyway and wouldn't really sit in chairs? That might help you figure out how many to bring since your space is at a premium. You'll also have the picnic table. But yeah, think about how you might sit around and hang out in a hotel room, add the concept of a big outdoor patio, and decide what you think you might use.

Are you tent camping? If so yes you need them.

Growing up we never had anything like camp chairs so we never had a chair with a back on it. After a few days sitting just on the picnic bench gets real old.

The only break was when we drove somewhere and sat in the car.

LOL! Reading this just flashed an image of our whole family sitting at the campsite in the van with the A.C. as our relaxing time. :lmao: Can you imagine how pathetic that would be!? Crazy tent campers in August! ;)

Also just a thought.... Does anyone bring their own chairs to the Chip N Dale campfire? We've never done the campfire before but I'm sure it will happen this trip.

I definitely vote for the chairs. We've always spent time outside, even when it's summer. That's part of the coolness of being at the campground.

We have never taken chairs to the campfire, but have seen a few folks do so. There is usually plenty of space on the benches, and we just sit on them. :)

Hi Mush...we are in the process of planning our first trip to Fort Wilderness (though it won't be until next May), and we were just having a similar discussion about packing differently for a Disney trip versus a typical camping trip. It seems like we'll be using the camper more like a hotel room than usual, so making extra room for clothing and food is a priority.

I can definitely see leaving some of the 5 chairs at home, especially if you don't expect all 5 chairs to be used at once; for example, if the kids aren't likely to lounge around the site.

Yep, agree with PP that I've seen folks with their own chairs at the campfire. Not a bad idea at all if you plan to spend the whole evening there starting with the sing-along and ending with a whole movie...those benches and bleachers can get hard.

I agree ...those benches get real hard on the tush so I've always taken one of my own foldable chairs to the movie.

If space is an issue, I vote for two adult chairs in the minivan. If the adults leave them open, kids can use them. When a grownup want it, they get first dibs.

I like to sit in my chair in the mornings or evenings at my site and the chairs are more comfortable (to an adult) than the picnic table.

vote for chairs.... we spend a lot of down time relaxing after a crazy day at the parks... Hubby and I get time to have a drink, talk and chillax outside while the kids read or watch tv before bed...

We went back and forth on the chairs also, but ultimately decided to bring all 5 because we suspect we'll have more "down time" at the campground than we think and don't want the picnic table to be our only seating option.
