I am just wondering what people do with their cameras on the water rides?
We are thinking about bringing our DSLR but
1 don't feel like carrying it around all day
2. what do you do when you go on rides
3. what do you do on water rides?
looking for some ideas
thanks
jay

Rent a locker.

I like to take my small point and shoot for most of the parks and carry a zip lock bag for when it rains, water rides, etc. We do like to have the DSLR for taking photos in AK, fireworks, electrical parade and sometimes take a slower day at Epcot and focus on photographing the details of WS. When we aren't using the DSLR we store it in the room safe.

does anyone know if you are allowed to bring it on say like space mountain?

Depends on the ride. I think Kali River Rapids is the only one I would put it away on.

For Splash I use one of these and keep shooting.

The only water ride I've taken my DSLR on is Splash Mtn (mostly b/c I forgot to take it off...). I put it under my shirt to keep it as dry as possible. It worked out for Splash...I wouldn't do it for Kali though :)

There are lockers right across the entrance to kali that are free to use as long as you get your stuff out within either 2 or 3 hours. We were off the ride in 15 min.

We use one of those xxl zip lock bags that we stuff everything in when we go on wet rides. You can find the nice big storage ones at Target. It holds my park/camera bag.

do they have lockers near the water rides....

They have ones near Kali River Rapids in Animal Kingdom that are free for 2 hours. Splash Mountain is really the only other ride where it might get wet, but I've never had a problem, although I keep mine in my backpack.

I use a LowePro AW200. That way, I don't have to carry it, per se. Backpacks are just more convenient. And it's got a rain cover for Splash Mountain or EE when it's raining. For Kali, I just put it in a locker. Otherwise, the backpack goes with me on every ride.

#1 - I carry it and take photos
#2 - I carry it (and take photos)
#3 - I carry it in a waterproof bag (Sea to Summit are good ones)

Reference #1 - if you don't feel like carrying it all day then it might be time for a smaller lighter camera. We switched to micro 4:3 and gave up almost nothing except the size and weight.

So you are allowed to take your camera on the rides... are you allowed to USE them on the rides?

There are only a couple rides that say "no photography." Soarin and ToT seem to be hit or miss on "no photography" vs. "no flash photography". I love Disney's camera friendly policies. :) Not sure if I've heard it on RnR, but it probably goes without saying. I've kept my camera out on Space trying to get a neat shot on the light tunnel (so far unsuccessfully) and nobody has mentioned a "no photography" policy on that ride.

Many rides specify "no flash photography" (especially the dark rides) but unfortunately many people seem to not hear it. Or care. :(

Sometimes it's just fun to play with a camera on a ride though.

I'm not aware of any rides that don't allow it, but there are rides that have an announcement that flash photography isn't allowed. And even if there isn't an announcement, common sense should tell you not to use it on dark rides.

ETA: I just saw mom2rtk's post after mine posted, and I didn't even think about Soarin' and ToT.

That's great you can take pictures on the rides! Very different from the amusement parks where I'm from lol! Thanks for the info! And I wouldn't use flash on the dark rides of course!

You know I just got an even bigger camera.....and you keep taunting me with the thought of going smaller. Cut that out! ;)

They are very camera friendly in all the shows at Disney as well. I can't think of any that don't allow photography. I've heard that DCL now does not allow photography at their shows though.
