ok with the holidays coming I wishto start looking for a better camera one that will be used mostly for drama productions, still etc my dd is in band and drama so it won't be carried everywear any ideas?? I really dont wish to go over 300 total and would like to be able to get a good zoom and a fast speed! I am not against getting a used either I don't know alot about them and I am looking for class to take too

and yes I Have a small cannon that I carry to parks etc! this one may come with but only to events not on rides etc!~

I wanted a camera that pretty much did what you are looking for. After doing a lot of research and watching reviews on cnet.com I ended up buying the canon powershot sx260 hs. It is under $300.00 and after using it for a month now I can honestly say it is the best camera I have ever used. Very clear pictures, easy to use features, fast shutter spped and a 20X zoom.

My pictures look great and I love doing special functions like color accent or fisheye.

Oh, and one more thing...the HD video quality is wonderful. I wasn't looking for that feature in a camera but this one is so good I find myself using it often.

You could lso look at the Canon S95 or S100. Better low light however not as much zoom. A trade off.
