I also posted this on the Photography board but thought I would ask here, too. My daughter leaves for France this week and we thought we could use disposable batteries for her camera..... turns out we can't. :guilty:

Can she charge her batteries in France with an adapter? Thanks for any help!

I was in France in October, and used an adapter for my curling iron and my ipod. It wasn't easy to find an outlet in our room that we could plug the adapter into, though.

She should be able to use it for her camera. We were there for a week, and I took 150 pictures. I didn't need to recharge my battery while I was there.

Make sure to tell her to respect the no flash / no photography rules in many of the museums.

I'm not an expert here but I think it depends on the type of charger she has - ie, if it can handle dual voltage.

I noticed when I traveled in Europe, a lot of the hotels I stayed in provided an outlet in the bathroom for electric shavers with 110 voltage. I was able to plug in my battery charger without any problems.

If your daughters battery charger is dual voltage she will be fine with just an adaptor. She may notice that it takes longer to charge the batteries than normal. But, she won't have a problem.

If her charger is not dual voltage, than she will need a voltage converter as well as the adapter. Some adapter kits include the coverter, some do not.

I would think an adapter/converter, available at most any travel/luggage type store would be good. If I recall, that is what the adapter does, converts the 220 to 110 and DC to AC.

Unfortunately, most adapters are plug adapters and not voltage converters.

OP, you will need to use a plug adapter with your charger if it can be set for 220-240 volts. Most multi-wattage chargers are designed to sense the voltage automatically. Of course, read the user’s manual or labels carefully first!

I think those couple I linked to are also convertors. Maybe not, but that was what I was looking for.

Read on the charger what the volatage is is will either say 110v or 110-240V with the later it will automatically convert the voltage and you will be fine, just pick up a plug adapter, If it doesn't you will need a transformer and they aren't the best to travel with.

BTW Most of the chargers we can buy on base are auto voltage.

Sorry, Dan, I didn't look at your links. I should have, shame on me!!

I guess I saw the wording, "adapter", and I was responding to that.
