Camera suggestions...

Ive been using Panasonic Lumix for the last few years. At the minute Im using a Lumix gf6 and very happy with it. Im not sure how much it costs, I got mine on Amazon around a year ago. :thumbsup2

I'm no camera aficionado but I love to take pictures and wasn't happy with my iPhone, or point and shoot camera. I went on a search for something that takes great photos, will fit in my purse or pocket if need be, and won't break the bank - something DSLR quality in a small size and without the DSLR pricetag!

I decided on the Canon Powershot SX700 and I love, love it! It takes great photos, 30X zoom, built in wifi and I can even remote control it with my iPhone (how cool is that?)! :thumbsup2

One thing my wife has always insisted on is a camera that uses AA or AAA batteries. You can find those batteries anywhere, so you're rarely stuck with no charge. I tend to just get multiples of whatever battery fits in the camera. I'm a Sony or Nikon fan for P&S. She's a Canon fan for P&S.

I too like cameras and devices that use AA/AAA batteries. However, I refuse to buy disposables. I insist on Eneloop low-discharge NiMh rechargeables.

Warning: Avoid 42nd Photo...sigh. They are switcheroos, or at the very least, not worth the hassle. I placed the order, expecting it to ship Monday...those giving warnings were correct, they will not ship the order until they can call you. When I placed the order, I realized it automatically switched my information to an old phone number listed on Paypal, not the one I entered on their own order form. I immediately emailed them with the correct phone number. Today, I get a message saying the number does not work (they never opened or acknowledged my first email) and my order will not ship until they can talk to me. They are known for scamming people with trying to upsell more items. I don't play that game. So, I've cancelled the order and am on the search for a nice priced Lumix or Coolpix...I just can't go for the SeaLife...99% of my photography is not in the ocean, so I would be paying for a product that would not fit our needs...but it looked great for underwater! Thanks everyone!

I love my Lumix DMC-ZS20. It takes great pictures, is small, charge lasts forever it seems, and is easy to use.

I bought an underwater housing for it that is basically a bag with a waterproof seal for maybe $40. I don't have time to search for the brand. We used it on our trip to Bora Bora and it took great pictures. It was a little hard to use, but that's a good trade off given how expensive the fitted housings are.

Well for good regular and waterproof we have a Canon D10 which I was more than pleased with for the price and great color from the pictures.

Now I have some $4k plus cameras at work and I just bought a Sony A6000 and I am VERY impressed with the photos. I dont know how to use all the settings yet, but it is way better than a couple year old high end DSLRs and much more portable. It is a great set up and very portable. Comparing the sensors, it is bigger than anything in the category. Great reviews.

I have friends with the Lumix, and they love them too......

Found it: DiCAPac.com

They have a large site which will tell you which housing is compatible with what cameras. My housing is $15 online (it's been awhile, but I remembered it was cheap!), came with a strap to keep it around your neck, and worked like a charm. I'm sure serious photographers would poo-poo it, but for someone who wants good pictures without breaking the bank, it was perfect.

I'm looking at this one and the RX100...Abe's of Maine had it for $350..Sony has it for $500 (same as Amazon) I just can't afford the $500 and the same warnings came with Abe's of Maine as with 42nd photo...they will end up calling you and tell you that you're buying an 'import'...I have no idea why an 'import' wouldn't be as good but you don't get the warranty with it..and I have had to use the 1 year warranty before, so don't want to risk it. The RX100 has the largest sensor for such a small camera...I may just keep my eye on it, since they have 2 more newer generations of it that run for $800-1000...I'll go back and check the A6000..but I think that may be even more than the RX100...thanks so much for all the help...

B&H photo. camera, 15-55 and 55-200 lenses, shipped to my house for 700. It was on sale, but they run sales randomly, and they seem to have a pretty good reputation, and it registered with Sony, so seems legit....:thumbsup2

Look into the a5000 or 5100s. Same sensors, same lenses, I think the 5000 is 18 MP, but has a few different features, but cheaper.

Yes! I just looked at the A5100 and A6000...and also the Panasonix LX100 or was that the Nikon Coolpix? I literally have looked at over 35 cameras in 24 hours and I'm no closer to picking one. I have narrowed down some preferences:

I really don't think I want an interchangeable lens (but for the right camera might consider it) I have the Canon XS50 for zoom..so looking more for ease of use and bigger sensor.

I don't want to pay over $700..hmm..really $400..but it's looking like if I'm going to buy a new one I need to go above $500.

Would love a viewfinder...don't need Wifi feature...the search goes on..going to go back and look at some a5000s..thanks for reminding me!

Our lumix was not the waterproof one. We also bought the DICAPac bag from Amazon to use for snorkel shots. Because the camera was already 4 years old, I wasn't too worried if the waterproof bag didn't work. But it worked just great! There were a few shots where my zoom didn't line up with the bags opening, but it gave it a "porthole" look that was really cool!

Decision made! Budget always wins...have been researching to the hilt for cameras...for any others with a bigger budget my choices would have been in order...

Sony a6000 (saw photos made by it..stunning)
Sony RX100ii (not willing to pay for the iii...but ii would have worked)
Panasonic LX100

Now all those are smallish and that's what I was going for, really impressed by the Olympus brand and have never had one, but the ones I wanted DM or something like that were over 1k...dream time.

I opted for Minnie Ears choice! I had been following the Panasonic GF6 but it came out in 2013 and the price was still pretty up there...'retailed' at $599...but price was sitting at $534 for most or maybe $499...the RX100 was $499 and 3 years old...so I waited..today it popped up on Amazon for $329 and $349...I think that is a pretty good price for a camera that sold really well and has some consistency...I get next day shipping with Amazon so I'll have it tomorrow and will post a pic :) Thanks all!! Happy shooting!!:thanks::disrocks:
