Camera strap

Thank you Ladies (and Gents), now I have plenty to look at and choose from.

Well, after looking at all the options I think I'm going to go with the Op Tech, I really like that it's a system that I can add and subtract from and use in conjunction with other cameras. For now I'm looking at the Envy strap as my outings are only a few hours at a time. When we look into going back to DL I will probably add the Pro strap to the mix. Again, I like that I have the option to click one off and add the other without totally having to remove one to add the other. That wrist grip looks pretty cool too! And the back pack straps and...lol. Thanks everyone for your help!

Thanks for starting this thread. I have an optech, but didn't know you could add on to it to make it longer. I'm gonna do that. Ya learn somthing new everyday!

OOh I didn't know that OP Tech did a modular system.. that sounds exactly what i need to.

I'll definately go to my local store and have a look at the weekend.:)

Yep, that's pretty much what sold me on it. I knew Op Tech was popular I just didn't realize that was a big part of the reason. (Thanks Mickey 88!)
This site shows all the straps and everything separate where a lot of the sites it's a group shot and hard to see exactly what's what. Their prices don't seem bad either compared to what I've seen.

My wife is also quite "blessed" and usually is happy with the Op/Tech worn messenger style. I've tried that but I always have problems getting it up to my eye.

I have two Op/Tech Pro Loop straps and have found that the black one is longer than the red one! I don't know exactly why, I would assume it's more than just the color difference. One was bought at RIT (the college), one was bought online. The wife "stole" my black one (the longer one), and I have tried to find somewhere that sells the longer loop straps that Op/Tech shows in their catalog, but nowhere has them even listed, much less in stock.

If you're considering the R Strap, you might also want to check out the Y Strap, which is pretty similar but cheaper. I'd like to try one or the other but didn't get around to it, so I'm sticking with my Op/Techs for now. I also got a supercheap wrist strap off eBay but am still trying to figure out the best way to loop it onto the camera's lug. I feel like a dope but I just haven't gotten it yet. :)

you are welcome, the modular system is part of the popularity, they are also the best at supporing the weight of the camera...

I have 2 of the ritz/quantaray straps, they are better than the original strapsthat came with my cameras, but not as good as optech

procameragear is where I get my vests...best prices I've found...

Wenrob, so glad you posted this! I just received my new Op-tech strap. I choose this one: http://www.procameragear.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/1_21/products_id/38

So nice to have a strap that is long enough! As for it making the camera feel lighter, or distributing the weight better, I guess I will see on my next outing. But for now I am happy with the strap & the price!

Christine

you will like it, I do a lot of all day events with 2 cameras hanging around my neck, I was having some serious pain, after buying the optech strap, I was much happier at the end of the day

Okay so I'm an idiot. I know there was a thread recently about being able to buy "extenders" or something for your OpTech strap to make it long enough to wear across the body---but I can't find it.

I have an OpTech Pro strap and see that there are loads of system connectors on their site. Is there anyone that can tell me by looking at their site (or from experience) what system connector I need to buy in order to extend the length of my strap??? :confused3

I'm thinking the "Uni-Loop"...but that sure doesn't look like it's going to add any length to my existing neck strap.

originally i got the pro loop strap and it wasn't long enough so got number 3 here http://www.optechusa.com/product/detail/?PRODUCT_ID=48&PRODUCT_SUB_ID=&CATEGORY_ID=4 3/8 and it's good for me. i think the 3/8 is the width of the end of the strap where it connects to the camera, it's good for my canon , probably another 1/8 of an inch left but not sure about your nikon. it connects with a slide thing( like a belt) instead of the loop

I got the Pro strap with the 3/8 connector thing (mine came with that) and it fits both my Nikon D80 and my D90. Mine was plenty long enough to wear strapped across my body diagonally.

Op/Tech shows a longer version of the Pro Loop connector on their web site, but from what I can tell, it doesn't actually exist. Nowhere stocks it and almost nowhere even acknowledges that the part number exists! Kind of annoying as I'd like to buy a set...

Ann if you got the Pro Loops, you need the #9 connectors. You snap them in between the main strap and the loop connector part. They come w/additional loops but they unclip. These combined w/the strap and loops make it fairly long. I wore mine across my chest all day at Red Rock and it was pretty comfortable. Hope that helps!

Unfortunately, I didn't get the Pro Loop...just the OpTech Pro strap. Ugh. I'll figure something out sooner or later...even if it means buying a new neck strap and using the link you provided me above. :thumbsup2

Those look like the loop section is much shorter - well, not the loop itself, but there's a QR right next to the loop. Do you find that this gets in the way at all, compared to the normal loop piece that is thinner for longer? I kind of like the "floppiness" near the loop.

That shouldn't matter - it's a modular system; with the linked ends, you'd just disconnect the quick-release (QR) fasteners and put on the loop ones.

I just unclipped the little loops and put the connectors between the Pro Loops and the strap. I'm thinking I may give them a try though so I don't have to completely remove the strap when I'm not using it. I'll let you know.

I thought about this later too Ann, you should still be able to use it like Groucho said.

number 3 connector plus pro strap neck part = 49 inches long( plus an additional 1 " on each side above the place it is connected to the camera so strap with out camera is about 51"long) the number 3 was about $11 from where ever i bought it from
