Help!!

Less than a month to go for our trip and my camera is on the fritz.

Please tell me if you are happy with your digital camera and spare no details (brand, price, purchase place).

I have a Cannon G9 that I LOVE. The screen on the back is REALLY large and it takes great pictures. It isn't quite as fast as a big SLR camera but it's pretty speedy. I asked the camera shop for the best camera that wasn't an SLR. I was looking for something a little smaller - but not too small.

If you want a SLR camera... There is a trip report on the WDW side from DisneyTiger (link) and she has great photos. I believe she has a Nikon D80 that was purchased right before the trip - so make sure and look at the trip photos and not the pre-trip photos.

My camera just died too. No reviews personally, but this is the one I ordered. This is the best price from a retailer that I could find, and this camera got high marks from every site that reviewed it. Mine should arrive in a couple days.

I was going to order this camera. But what turned me off was that it takes AA batteries. I’ve had cameras like that and they make me mad.

I’m going to order a Sony. This one. They have them at Target for $99. It's an older Cybershot model, but it looks like it will get the job done and it has high reviews.

If you want something inbetween a small pocket camera and an SLR, try the Canon S5 IS. Totally automatic, yet can be programmed as well. We've taken some great photo's our last two trips. I absolutely love this camera. The only disadvantage is that it's not a small pocket camera. I have links to photo's if you want.

I have a Kodak EasyShare CX7430 which I love. They don't make this particular model anymore, but all of the Kodak camera are really good. They take bright, clear pictures and videos (the pictures in my trip report were taken with this camera). You can also purchase the printer dock to print out your pictures at home. My camera was purchased at Best Buy, but it was a gift so I'm not sure of the price.

Looks like a few of us are in the same boat here. I also have a dead camera and am in the hunt for a new one. To be honest, I actually prefer 35 mm cameras as far as ease of use and picture quality, but I wanted to get the best point and shoot possible. I would love to get one of the cool Nikons like a D40 or higher model (like what the PhotoPass people use), but I know that a bulky camera like that would get on my nerves hanging around my neck at DLR. I like to have something that I can shove in my purse. The problem is that many of the point and shoots do not take decent nighttime pictures. I mean, they don't have to be PERFECT, but I would like to get some fairly good night shots. I have actually heard that the Canon Power Shots do not take good night shots at all, so I was reluctant to go that route. WazowksiLOVER (whose wonderful photos have graced many of the threads on this board) currently uses a Nikon D40, but has said that her old Sony Cybershot was pretty good for a point and shoot when she used it. So I am inclined to stick with the Sony. I am thinking if Jasmine liked it well enough, it must be pretty decent!! The problem is, I don't know which model of Sony Cybershot to get. I have heard of some folks having good luck and taking better pictures with older models, but not as much with the newer ones, though you would think the opposite would be the case!

You guys should check out the DIS photo board as well. You might get help and advise there too!

I also have a Kodak Easyshare. Mine is the Z712. I absolutely love it. My daughter has a Panasonic Lumix. Not sure of the model number but it is also a very excellent camera.

Our "clunker" very first digital camera is a Kodak DX3215 Zoom Digital Camera. 1.3 megapixels, LOL.

This crazy thing is still going strong, after 7+ years.

However, it does not take very good close up photos, due to the low megapixels. But it does have a large internal memory.

But this camera has lasted FOREVER. We gave it to our son and he takes it on field trips, etc. for school.

I just bought a Canon Powershot SD 770 IS and LOVE it! It's very small and easy to use. I have had great results with it. It was around $150 on amazon.com. Sorry I don't have more time for a complete review, but I wanted to post anyway to let you know that Staples is having a sale on cameras - $50 off cameras over $149, so whatever you decide, hopefully you can get a good deal! :)

My daughter has the 120 and loves it. Very simple to use.

You may want to look at the Sony HX1 or the Olympus E-620.

Well I have a Canon Powershot at home that I bought because my first Powershot was ruined in our house fire. I have the A590 I believe it is at home, it sucks. LOL Seriously, nothing but issues since we brought it home. The lens doesn't open all the way, it drains batteries like nobodies business, the pics get messed up because the exposure locks and we don't know until after the shot is done and we review it. I won't get another one. I got myself a new camera the day after Thanksgiving, it's a Nikon but I can't remember the numbers on it, it's super small, very portable, takes great pics and has it's own rechargable battery that lasts forever!!!! It's purple too so I love it. :) I'll get the numbers when I get home so you can check it out. :)

I have a Canon A630 and I LOVE it!! I think the A640 is the current model. It takes fabulous pictures and I've gotten really great compliments on the photos I've taken. It's larger than the SD models but still small enough to fit in a purse or in DH's cargo shorts pocket. I bought a small case from Best Buy that I wear messenger style and it also has room for extra batteries and memory card. What's great about the camera is all the options and the swivel screen.

I've owned many digital cameras - Canon, Nikon, Samsung, and Pentax. Canon's are my favorite because I think the colors are the richest and requires less photo processing than my Nikon. But everyone has their own preferences.

Are those big, clunky cameras or are they compact enough to shove away in a purse/messenger bag sort of deal? And is the picture quality good on both?

I was looking into a Canon SX10IS or SX110IS for a point and shoot for those times I don't want to carry around my Nikon D90. The SX10IS looks really good and is more of a bridge camera, whereas the the SX110IS is more of a point and shoot. You can find them both on Amazon with descriptions and reviews.

Thanks everyone - so much. You cut down on my research time tremendously!

I'm just glad the camera went now and right before we left.

Tell me about it. Our trip last year in February, my camera fell into the urinal about half way through the day after I had taken about 300 photo's already. Don't ask.

Never put your camera in your hoodie pocket while taking care of business. Luckily I was able to get the SD card out and it still worked. The camera? Not so much anymore.

Ok, enough sharing too much.

LOL You should have bought some rice and put the camera into it, it may have soaked up enough water to fix it. :) But LOL about it falling into a urinal....where oh where is that tag fairy? LOL
