I really like my cybershot 7.1m .. I really do. The only reason I was thinking of the newer cybershot was because the memory stick pro's are harder and harder to find as Sony went with the memory stick duos. I know there is a converter but I don't trust it with my family vacations.![]()
I have a Pro Duo card that I use with an adapter. I had no problems at all from it on my trip a few months back. It is getting harder to find regular Memory Sticks anymore, I looked all over before finally giving in and buying the Pro Duo.
Looking at the adapter there's not much to it. It's just lengthens and thickens the Duo card and has conductors to extend the conductors on the card to the ones in the camera. There's no computer chip or anything to go wrong. As long as you push the card all the way in the adapter you shouldn't have any problems.
I even dropped the camera onto concrete one time causing the card w/ adapter to pop out of the camera and the card and adapter to separate. Got a little panicky for a minute that I lost the card as it is so small but my brother saw it. I was afraid something might have messed up on my camera or the card but nothing did, just a few scratches on the bezel around the lens. If the camera had been on I might have damaged the lens as it sticks out past the bezel but thankfully it was off. If something had happened to the card I would have been really upset as this happened on the fifth day of my trip and was the only card I was using at the time. I would have lost over 280 pictures if it had gone bad.
Somy makes their Cypershots tough, that's for sure. It survived an over 3 foot drop onto hard concrete, a hard enough drop to cause the door on the side to open and the Memory Stick to pop out.
