How do you import still pictures or videos from a camera to my computer using a USB cord? Please help.

plug cord into computer.
plug cord into cam.
turn cam on.

A JVC Everio video camera.

EDIT: I tried that and nothing happens so I think I have to import the pictures manually and I don't know how.

Look in my computer for the available device. If your using Windows there should be a pop up in the task bar saying a new device has been picked up.

This may sound so un-tech-like lol, but if you have more than one USB port, try sticking it into a different one if absolutely nothing pops up. I tried this once, and the "found new device" worked for me and allowed me to get the camera on.

Make sure both ends are connected, make sure the camera is on -- and if nothing pops up asking you to choose a task or something like that, do what schmitty said and look at "My Computer" for the device. If it isn't there, it isn't connecting properly to your computer for some reason.

BUMP!

I got to to the "found new device" thing, but I don't know where to go from there.

Install it using that bubble that pops up. 'found new device'

Will that get a video to my computer or will I have to do more stuff after that?

Read the manual.
some camera's have programs on it that you have to manually do it.
buut.
go to My Computer and click on Removable Storage Device file which would be your camera hooked up, there will be a file with pictures in it, move to a different file to save.
