Personally, I have used a Crumpler 5MDH and 6MDH and find that for all-day use, the 6MDH when fully loaded gets a little heavy and cumbersome. For storage and transporting my stuff, the 6MDH works great but for all-day shooting, from now on I will stick with my smaller 5MDH.

I like it a lot. If size is a concern, they also make two smaller versions, the 3N1 10 and 3N1 20. I purchased the 30 because it would fit my rather hefty 70-200 2.8 lens. If you do not have the need for the extra width, the 20 looked like a nice size. Although, I do not have any trouble carrying the 30. You can see in the photo above, that you don't really even see it on my back. It fits me comfortably and I'm about 5'6".

Do you think my Nikon D200 with a 18-200 mounted and hood attached would fit in a 3n1 20? I'm looking for a bag that I can take on rides and fit under an airline seat.
Anyone have a Lowepro Fastback 200. I like the idea that it too is flexible. Reaching in and grabbing my camera would be ideal at WDW. My big Domke messenger gets tiring (August heat) and my smaller Domke is well getting a bit small.

I'm pretty sure that would easily fit. I can fit a D300 with 70-200 2.8 (hood reversed) attached in the 30. The 70-200 lens is considerably longer than the 18-200. I also considered the Lowepro, but when I tried it in the camera store, it felt really rigid on my back and just didn't seem to fit me well.

Thanks for your quick and helpful reply.The 20 is now at the top of my list. I just need 11" body to hood tip. I've read a report that the Lowepro was difficult to get into the locker at WDW because of the rigid bottom. That was the problem with my old Kiwi bag. Also, the straps on the Kiwi were too thick and inflexible. I like padding but wide thick straps are uncomfortable.The 20 straps look comfortable. Oh and it's black which means that maybe one of my sherpas ...errr ....I mean DSs will carry it while DH gets the video outfit

Hey I have been really thinkingf about getting Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 and was just wondering if it canconvert multiple raw files at one? Also is it quite easy to use or does it take a while to get used to and can it be used with paint shop pro? Thanks

I do not use it, but I can answer some of this.

For the price it had better allow batch processing! (It does)

I cannot speak about the ease of use, but it looks easier to understand than PS.

Because it is a RAW processing program, it does not matter what image editing program you use because you will no longer be using the RAW file at that point in the process. Sure, there is probably some strong integration with PS, but that does not mean that you cannot use a different editor. FWIW, if I need to do some editing, I process to TIFF first and then as the final step I save as JPG.

I have been using Lightroom for 6 months.
Yes it can do batch processing through their Sync. It works by making your changes to an image and then, sync that changes (White Balance, Exposure, Saturatio, Contrast, etc) to the same like image. The sync can even do dust spots (set it on the first image and then sync the brush tool) to all your photos.
Lightroom is strictly a photo tool (unlike PhotoShop that is a Graphic design tool that does well with photos). Lightroom is NOT a photo manipulation program...it is for photo adjustments, photoshop is for more creative and photo manipulations (removing parts of an ikmage for instance).
I also have Photoshop Elements (for manipulation), but use very rarely since getting Lightroom.
You can also get a 30-day trial from Adobe and that is the best way to see if it is best for you.
If I could do it again, I would definately purchase it again.

Lightroom saves me tons of time on post-processing, I couldn't imagine doing anything without it. Your questions were all answered above but I just wanted to throw in my vote for this program. I've been using it since the first version. My basic workflow looks something like this:

- import all RAW files into LR
- sort through and flag them (you can also rate and sort using stars and numbers)
- basic editing done in LR - cropping, straightening, white balance, exposure, etc. I also have tons of presets that I use for certain effects
- depending on what I'm editing, I export to Photoshop to fine-tune, then save back to LR
- Use LR to export as JPG both full-sized and web-sized
- I then use LR to upload files to galleries for clients to proof

light room has the option to include different editing programs. it will direct you to painter x ( corel, i have it along with pshp elements) so i am pretty sure it would recognize paint shop as well. you just include them in the preferences and when you want to edit a photo a clickable list of all the editing software you entered comes up and you just chose what you want ( ie there isn't really a default if you have a couple entered)
if you have a student in the family you can get it cheaper but imo it's worth the price. i pretty much do what the above posters do and really don't use elements anymore except to add decorative things ie textures and some cloning( little stuff like a spot or bird or something, i like lightroom fine, larger things i'd rather use the features of elements) and i export with elements since i have the export on lightroom set for tiff and 16 bit so it saves it that way i export to 8bit jpg with elements for my imagekind site.
it is a little difficult to get used to just because it has so many features but the basics are pretty easy, slide a slider till it looks good to you for the most part. imo it's easier than photoshop and way easier than painter x( still working on baby steps with that one) to get used to. there are tons of tutorials on the help online section.

I will put in a vote for Lightroom also. I used PSE6 prior to getting Lightroom and I find Lightroom covers 95% of the editing I want to do to a photo. I love it. As jann1033 said you can get a discount if you have a student or a teacher in the family. I got mine at academicsuperstore.com for $99.99 which is quite a savings over the $299.99 retail price tag. and I would recommend watching the tutorials that are located here http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/lightroom/articles/lir2am_videotutorials.html . Also if you have an iTunes account there are several podcasts available with tips and tricks for Lightroom. The 2 I subscribe to are Adobe Photoshop LIghtroom Killer Tips and Lightroom for Digital Photographers. Its a fun and easy program to use and I rarely use Elements anymore. Just the ease alone with adding metadata and keywords over the Elements process to accomplish this was worth the price in my opinion.

Ideally, I would rather not have the tripod on the back of the bag, but that's a sacrifice I had to make to stay with a small bag. As for the bag (LowePro Slingshot AW 100), I think it's perfect because of the size.

I also have the Slingshot 100. I was wondering, why didn't you mount the tripod to the side of the bag that has the loop? What tripod is that?

The legs hang down too low if I attach the tripod to that loop. If LowePro would located the side loop just a bit higher, it would work!

The question about whether it can convert multiple images at once makes me think that you need a better understanding of the way the tool works. When you use Lightroom, you import your pictures into a catalog. The pictures can be RAW, JPEG, TIFF, PSD or whatever other supported picture format you use. You can import thousands of pictures at once.

Once the pictures are in Lightroom, you can view them regardless of what format they are stored in. Lightroom becomes the primary way that you look at pictures on your computer. It's great for this because it lets your organize the pictures in collections and folders, filter the views by keywords, rankings, metadata, etc.

If you want your pictures outside of Lightroom (to upload to a website, burn on a disk, print, use in a slideshow, or whatever), Lightroom gives you the ability to export or print the pictures. It can export thousands of pictures at a time and can do it an lots of different formats.

If you want to edit a picture with a tool other than Lightroom, you can right click on the picture in Lightroom and open it with your favorite photo editor. If it is an editable format, it gives you the option of directly editing the file or making a copy and editing that. If it is in a non-editable format (like a RAW file), it will make a copy and let you edit that.

For our Disney trip last month, I used a Lowepro sling A200 and we all absolutely hated it. The ease of getting to the camera did not compensate for the strain it put on one shoulder and neck of everyone who carried it. Last Friday I went and got the Lowepro Compudaypack for a trip to the North Shore. It held my Sony a350, 2 lenses, 3 filters, extra batteries and cards, plus snacks and a hat in the backpack part. I was able to store a jacket in the laptop compartment and it was far more comfortable than the sling bag. I really liked how sturdy the top handle was, and it was not that difficult to get into the camera portion of the bag. It zips open nicely so the whole top portion flips away from it. My Dell 17" laptop also fit in the bag nicely when I put it in there to see how it would fit. This is a bit bulkier than I would have liked, but the comfort factor won over the size factor. I would like to take a trip to Italy next year sometime, and this should hold everything I need for camera gear, laptop and a few extras. Not sure I could pack a bunch of clothes and cosmetics in it, but might have to try it out.

I am sure I will still be on the hunt for the "perfect" camera bag, but this did work well for a day trip complete with hiking over rocks, around waterfalls and the like.

You guys are so committed- there is no way I would lug that much around Disney. I would say 90% of the time I'm there it's with one prime lens. Just got done 'packing' for this weekend at CSR- I am taking the little tripod since MK is open until 3am tomorrow night.
