I've been toting around a Cumpler 5 million dollar home. Crumpler bags are great, but a bit pricey. However, if you scour the internet, you can usually find a decent deal or two.

Just a normal sony alpha camera, with the normal lense...i don't plan on taking a better lense with me..

Thanks

the alphas are available in several kits, depending on the retailer, which lens do you have..

I have both a crumplier and a lowepro slingshot. I got the slingshot first thinking I would like it better, but for me the messenger style worked out better.

I don't think there is such a thing as a perfect bag, you just have to find one that your stuff fits in and you don't mind carrying.

I got the crumplier at Adorama, the slingshot from Amazon.

yes it interfaces with elements also painter x

not sure about what you mean it "doesn't do". it doesn't do things like watercolor/art effects or panoramic. you can load some presets for some things like high key, tints etc. i think some things are more difficult ie removing a large sign, with lightroom than with elements. i like lightrooms brush though for things like slightly lightening a part that is just a little shadowy, or contrasty, as well as grayscale for b&w conversions... i just don't care for the clone for large things, i'd rather use the marquee in elements for that.

don't have smugmug

I'll second that! :thumbsup2 I love my $5M! Right now I'm carrying my XSi w/ 18-55 kit lens, a 50mm 1.8, SLR (not zoom) gorillapod, charger, manual, extra cards and 4 miniDV tapes (not quite sure why).

A friend of mine has a Crumpler backpack for his D300 and a couple of his bigger lenses. He's a professional but swears up and down about the Crumpler line.

I have the Domke F-6 which is a medium sized bag. It's good for two lenses and some other stuff in there too. My camera is always around my neck, not in the bag. It's an unobtrusive bag that gives me protection with it's padded insert for the lenses.

I think of Lightroom as sort of a digital darkroom. You can crop, make exposure, white balance and many other "adjustments" to the photos. Photoshop and PS elements are more pixel editors, i.e. moving things around, do really advanced photo editing functions.

Lightroom really shines as a tool to manage photos and to process photos taken in RAW format, although it works perfectly fine with jpegs.

Both LR and PS(elements) do a lot of the same things. I have probably over simplified it, but that is how I understand it.

I found this plugin that looks like it will allow you to export(upload) to SmugMug:
Jeffrey’s “Export to SmugMug” Lightroom Plugin. Haven't tried it myself yet.

Hope this helps a little.

Do you have any photo shops near you to look at bags? If nothing else that can help you figure out what type you might like, ie-messenger, sling, backpack. You can find lots of bags on Amazon, B&H Photo and Adorama to name a few.

I have a lowepro slingshot 100 that is very nice for carrying a camera and a couple of lenses. Sams Club recently had a generic version of this that was less expensive but seemed to still be good quality.

I have a Tamrac backpack that I use for travel that also carries a laptop and the camera with 3-4 lenses and has another compartment to carry a few other items such as cell phone, wallet etc.

I have no photo shops near me...the closet thing is best buy. :sad2:

They are hard to find these days. :sad2: We have one within 150 miles and are lucky to have it although they don't carry Sony so all I can do is buy accessories from them.

Still, unless you know what type of bag you would like you could get an idea at Best Buy although I don't think they carry that much. What they do often have are slings and backpacks. When I go in there I personally just tell the sales staff I'm fine looking on my own - thanks very much!

Otherwise - you've gotten some great suggestions for bags and online places to buy. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the information.
I had read the online information and FAQs for Lighroom and was hoping I could use it to cut down on my post processing time. I am not a fan of spending a lot of time on post processing. I prefer to try and get it "right" in the camera. (Not succeeding every time but getting better!)

If Lightroom will allow me to fix minor issues such as saturation, sharpening, color correction and such AND allow me to process and store my photos better, that is my primary goal.

Appreciate the input!

Not to discourage you from LR, but if you just want to make some simple edits and manage your photos the Picasa tool from Google is pretty good.
