You're right there wasn't anything definitive about the magnets. However, the backpack had about four or five of them, I felt it was better to be safe then sorry.

I carry a Crumpler $4M home and it *just* fits a 30D with 24-105. A Xsi fits a lot better but still leaves no room for anything else.

The camera comes out easily (the Xsi anyway). I carry the bag messenger style (loaded with a 70-200 f/4 and a 10-22 or a water bottle) all day, as in 8:30 am until 10:30 pm, no problem. It also holds a monopod and small Thirsty Al case on the outside.

Bob, are you talking about a different bag than the $4M in your second paragraph?

No, but I wasn't very clear. :) I carry the camera in the $4M home only while in transit. Once I arrive at my destination the camera is stays out while the lenses and such stay in the bag.

To carry the camera *and* a lens or two in the bag would take at least a $5M home (which DW uses).

Thanks for all the help! Im deciding between a 5M and a 4M -- wish i still lived in nyc so I could just stroll down to the store, its so difficult to judge these things online!! Im leaning towards the $5M but hoping it isn't too big/bulky. I've given up on carrying around my pin lanyard, I think either way with the camera around my neck it just wont work. Thanks for all the help!!

Ok thanks... I had been considering a $6M.

I appreciate the feedback.

For years whenever I buy a purse, camera bag or put my wallet down on a counter in a store I think about magnets. Who knows:confused3 but I'd rather not take the chance.

Hmmmm this might be a good one for Mythbusters!!

I just purchased a $5M! After reviewing the pictures from flickr, i'm confident I made a good choice! Thanks to everyone who has helped, I will post some pictures when it arrives!

Does anyone out there have the Lowepro Slingshot 200 bag? Would a Nikon D90 with 18-105 VR and 70-300 VR lenses fit with room for a flash (when we buy one) and the charger for the camera battery? We can't find one locally to see if it all fits. If it is a little large, that's okay (it would be nice to put our Sony HDR-SR1 camcorder in there too if possible).

Thanks!

Not sure if this will help you but I have the Slingshot 100. I carry my D40 with 18-55 kit lens and a 55-200 VR lens. I have room for a flash unit (which I havent purchased yet) and also a still empty upper compartment that I am sure would hold the charger if I carried it. I still also have a front pocket for small items like the remote shutter release and some small personal items. There is a pocket for memory cards inside the main compartment. Im not sure what the difference is in size between the 100 and 200. By the description I would think the 200 could handle everything you mentioned with some room to spare.

Just a FYI.....

Sam's Club sells a very nice knockoff of the Slingshot 200 bag for around $40. Even if you'd rather buy the actual Lowepro version, you can always look at the one at Sam's to get an idea of how big it is.

I just bought one has an early Christmas present to myself and I can assure that there is plenty of room in the bag!! Here is review of the bag.

Yes, and yes. Plenty of room. As stated above, the knockoff at Sams Club is identical to the Lowepro. We have both and they carry all we need with room left over.

Thanks for the recommendations--I am going to buy one today. We found someone selling their barely used Slingshot 200 All Weather on craigslist for $45. It's only 600 miles from here.... The only reason I looked there, is we are driving right by on our way home for Thanksgiving. Since we are going anyway, we might as well get the bag because we don't have anything that will contain everything. We are meeting at the local Barnes and Noble. I know we will probably buy another bag later once we have time to try them all out, but I'd hate to lose or wreck something in the meantime (and I can resell it on Craigslist later if we get something else).

In my Slingshot 200 I can fit camera w/ mounted lens along with five more lenses and a flash. It's a stretch and I usually don't cram them all in at once, but I can ;)

The 200 will give you plenty of room to grow... if you don't need that then look at the 100.

that would definately fit - I carry more than that in mine on a daily basis.

i have a question for those who use their camera bags instead of purses...what do you take into Target et al? guessing you don't lug the whole bag there but i would hate to have my wallet just laying in the cart.

OT i have a tamrac system 3 bag that is really pretty ugly but i love it otherwise....but while i could stuff a change purse or card wallet in it not much else unless i took so lenses out( mostly due to my "gotta have every lens with me in case i need it " phobia). when granddaughter was in diapers i always worried about putting them in there anyway due to lint ( clean ones) and nastiness( unclean ones) and snacks due to crumbs and squished leaky juice boxes

Well I'm pretty sure I'm going to be happy with the Crumpler 6 Million Dollar Home. I haven't taken it outside yet (I will today) but everything fit in there quite nicely. I thought it was going to be very heavy fully loaded, but surprisingly, it's pretty light. :thumbsup2

I didn't realize the Tracy Joy bags weren't padded - thanks, Chikabowa for mentioning that. I wanted to be sure that if I dropped the bag, things would be fairly well protected. I'm like you, Anne - my camera gear comes everywhere with me, along with my two kids and dog for the most part, and I don't baby it. But it's not unusual for me to drop a bag in the fray so that part was important to me. This bag feels pretty secure.

Well for me, whether it's coming from my work bag (which is frequent since I often run into a store or two on my way home from work) or my camera bag, I take my travel wallet, phone and keys out and keep them with me. The thing I like about my wallet is that it's roomy (almost like a mini-pocketbook unto itself) so I can actually stick my phone inside the wallet and clip my keys on it, too, so that I have everything I need for a quick trip to the store in one place. (The wallet has a large hand strap if I need it to be really secure.)

I'm so happy I finally found a solution to my dilemma. This'll sound silly, but carrying everything around was one of the reasons I waited so long to buy a dSLR.

PS I never heard about the magnet issue.

Does anyone know if there is a limit? Has anyone ever received two CDs; because, you had so many pictures?

If noone has a limit could you tell me what was the highest amount you had on a photopass CD? TIA

I have actually heard of someone on here who literally had HUNDREDS (I believe it was around 700) photopass photographs and they ended up sending her like 4 cds. So in short, prepay (to get it for the cheaper price) and then hit up every photographer you find!!! I've also heard that if you tell them you've bought the cd, they might take more pictures for you. :confused3
