We are looking to buy a new digital camera for our upcoming Disney trip. We would like a good quality point & shoot with crisp images, some video capability if possible and the ability to take good night time shots. We also don't want something super expensive, but are willing to pay for good quality. Any advice would be appreciated!! TIA

HI there, first, how much zoom do you need and how many MP.....

I have the sony H50, not a small point and shoot, but it has 15 times zoom and 9 MP...We just came back from 10 days at DL and i can tell you it takes excellent pictures....it is very easy to use, has a very large LCD, and really isnt that heavy.....Good luck

I have an Olympus Stylus 1010 with a 2 gig memory card in it I love it easy to use 10 megapixel photos that come out great. It also has super macro in case you need to take close ups of every lizard you see like I have to for my grandson.
With the 2 gig memory card it can take up to 30 minutes of video

I picked up a Panasonic TZ5 to back up my DSLR on our recent Disney trip and loved it so much that I used it more than the DSLR. Photos are very crisp. Bought it at B&Hphoto.com for about $249.

thanks for the advice! Now I'm off to read some reviews ... Really my DH is much better at the research thing than me! :rotfl:

I second the Panasonic Lumix TZ5. I just bought one last month and so far it has passed every test I have put it through. Can't wait to take it to Disney! :goodvibes

I wasn't aware that there was a camera forum. Thanks guys!
So far it seems that the Olympus 1010 and the Panasonic TZ5 are favorites here. It helps to narrow things down to a few to seriously look at. There are just too many variables/cameras to consider without a starting point!

Love the Nikon Coolpix line. A lot of the picture-taking comes from experimenting with the different settings/modes. Try to familiarize yourself with these various settings prior to your trip ... regardless of what camera you may purchase.

One of the things I love about the Nikon's is the flat battery. It lasts way longer than the AA batteries my old Olympus used to use. In my mind, the type of battery should be a big factor in deciding what to buy.

We just got some Nikon Coolpix for use here at our mfg site ... quite a few people chimed in when deciding on a camera, saying they had Nikon Coolpix at home and the battery was always ready to go, unlike previous cameras they'd had.

Very compact (fits in a pocket) and takes great pics.
