camera advice please :)

hmm well ive had a look at all the camera's suggested and i have narrowed it down to the lumix and the sony they both look like really good camera's and after doing some online research i havant really found any bad comments about either so i guess its just a case of eeny meeny miney mo to choose one lol:dance3:

The SONY RX100 fits in the pocket much better. And is a full generation ahead of the other cameras in the list. It is expensive and you might want the grip (and always use the strap with it). The sensor size of the SONY is what sets it apart from the rest. However Those would be my two choices as well...

Did you know in the past Nikon used CCD sensors in it's DSLR's? If all pictures are noisy then how did they manage to make a professional quality camera with a CCD sensor?

You're making a generalization that may apply in some cases (like with the camera the OP was talking about), it doesn't necessarily hold true for every camera. And either way, it's pretty irrelevant in regards to my comment anyway. I was making a generalization myself, not speaking to this camera in particular, because in my experience learning a little bit about photography can help improve images with absolutely any camera. Even if it's just so you understand what auto mode to use when. And many of the chief complaints I see in consumer reviews for cameras, especially things like blurry images that were mentioned, are often a result of user error.

There are some very, very nice CCD cameras, even in the point and shoot world. I frequently mention/recommend looking at the Canon s95 and that has a 10 MP CCD on a slightly larger sensor. I just think 14MP on a tiny 1/2.3" sensor results in pixels too small for CCD technology to be effective.

For Sure. There is a grip available for the SONY RX100. The Fuji X10 does have some delays in focusing (small but there). It has the second best sensor. The RX100 having the best.

Only the SONY RX100 and Canon S95/S100/S110 are truly pocketable. The others the lens protudes some... Highly recomend seeing them in person...

Not sure if many brick and mortar retailers are actually carrying the Rx100.

Yea. You would think given the popularity of this camera that BB would have them but I can't find them anywhere.

It's a niche product. Yes, very popular among people really into photography, but it's not for the casual consumer. I somehow doubt, for example, that you will find the Nikon A600 in too many stores either.

The stores don't generally carry the "prosumer" or "professional" level gear.

THe RX100 is all over the place where I'm at. Maybe it depends more on the market the store is located in.

Some online stores allow returns. I am fairly certain you will like it In particular if you get the grip that is seperate.
