Camcorder??? Which one???

Hi--

I need to buy another camcorder for our WDW trip in les than 2 weeks. Mine died after already getting it repaired at JVC factory. I had a really good JVC Digital that I paid almost $1000 for. I'm sick. I would like something cheaper than $1000-preferably about $500-800. Anyway, I want a digital (Compatible w/Digital DVC tapes) and want a brand other than JVC. I'm currently looking at the Canon brand, doing research, etc. I would like the kind that takes photos on a card (removable). I will buy the extra battery (usually longer life than the one that comes w/the camcorder) Please let me know what kind you have and whether or not you like it. TIA.

We have had a lot of luck with a Sony MiniDV camera. It has been to Disney 4 times in the last 2 years with no problems. Sony has a new model (I am not sure of the model number, but it is available at Best Buy) for $800.

We have been very pleased with the quality of the camera and Sony has great add on accessories. We picked up a wide angle lens for our last trip which really helped with tight shots.

I got the Sony TRV608 camcorder for my trip in March. It's Hi8, not digital, but Sony is the way to go. They are a bit expensive, but they come with features galore.

Make sure whatever you get has:

*Alot of optical zoom
*Nightvision - This is a great feature! You probably wont be shooting at night, but lots of places at WDW are low light and nightvision(also known as Zero lux) is a wonderful feature.
*2.5 inch LCD or higher
*USB/Firewire(IEEE 1394) link - The best part of the camera should be the ability to hook up to your computer to edit.

Also, if you can, try waiting till around July 4. You'll find the biggest sales outside of Christmas.
