Camcorder Help needed

We will be arriving in Florida in two weeks for three magical weeks of sun, fun and Disney. We have an older analog Sony camcorder, which we have used on several trips but are now looking for a newer model.

Do anyone know of good places to go looking for a new camcorder.

We would very much like a new sony - Makes things easier since a lot of the models still uses the same kind of batteries/charger as our old one.

The camcorder prices in the US is a LOT less than here in Denmark, so where should we go if we're looking for a reliable store/chain with a reasonable selection and prices ? We have heard to0 many horror stories about people getting ripped of on international drive so any advice will be very welcome

How about Target? I think there is one off 417 (the Greenway) when you leave the airport. I think it is the John Young Pkwy exit. Can anyone verify?

I dont know if there are any Best Buy or Circuit City in Orlando area but thos are good places to check. Do you have enough time to buy it online?

The problem with buying online is that I can only import $30 worth before having to pay customs which is very expensive. If I buy it while on vacation on the other hand I can import $500 items without having to pay taxes. That's why we try to get some shopping done whenever we're in Florida

I have been looking at the Target.com website, and they do have some interesting items, but I'm looking into all options right now.

I'll appreciate all information since I really want a new camcorder

Hi Thea,

Just a couple of points you might want to consider: is your system PAL? (if so you probably won't be able to find a PAL camcorder too easily here). And also, it's likely that the camcorder batteries and chargers will be different if you are going from an analog system to mini-dv. As an example, I have a Sony Hi-8 camcorder and a Sony mini-DV camcorder, and they use entirely different batteries. Not trying to talk you out of Sony (I love my camcorder), but just some points to keep in mind for your purchase.
