I have just gotten my new miniDV camcorder and love it. Now I want to get rid of my 8mm, but first I have to transfer the videos over to the DV or what I really want to do is burn on to a DVD. My question is, how do I add more than one tape to a DVD? For instance, our last trip, we have two tapes of WDW and I don't want to have two DVD's since I know one will more than hold the footage. I have Showbiz and Sony's Picture Package. Any tips? Is there a program that is easier?

At decent video quality, DVDs will hold approximately 90 minutes of video - sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more.

If your 8mm is a newer one that allows you to hookup to the computer via firewire/1394/USB/? you can do the transfer yourself.

Of course, if you have inputs on your DV camera, you could run a cable between the two cameras and transfer to miniDV that way.

If you don't really have the expertise or patience to do it on your own, you can go to a Walmart or Sams or BJ's or whatever discount place that does photo processing around you. They can transfer home movies to DVDs. For a small fee, of course.

HTH!

Typically, the best quality DVDs only hold 60 minutes. Are you sure you want all of the footage from those two tapes? I know I always record a bunch of footage but I could easily edit it down (cutting out the messups and some of the boring stuff) To edit I usually use Pinnacle 8 (now Pinnacle 9 is out, and it is better) I'm gradually getting into Adobe Premiere as well, but that program is much tougher. It's fun to play around editing, adding effects and music ;) Anyways, if you want to do a simple transfer the Sony program should be just fine. :)

Actually I would like to edit a little of it out. I am sure there are some pauses in there that could go. I will have to look into that software. Thanks.

Actually, Pinnacle is a very easy video editing program to use and the results are actually quite stunning. It's very affordable as well. Usually runs around 100.00.

Have fun :)
